Job summary

Corlann in Cork is seeking dedicated Support Workers (day and night) to assist adults with intellectual disabilities in residential services. The role requires person-centred care, driving duties, and a commitment to rights-based support.

Permanent full-time positions (78 hours per fortnight) across Cork City, suburbs, Upton and Bandon. Competitive pay, 23 days leave, pension, training and progression opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a QQI Level 5 Major Award (8 modules) in Healthcare Support, Health Service Skills or Childcare or an SNA qualification.
  • Undertaking a Level 7 or Level 8 qualification in Social Care or Nursing is acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Support people with personal care, health and wellbeing needs.
  • Assist with daily living activities, meals, household tasks and community access.
  • Support individuals to achieve goals identified through person-centred planning and support plans.
  • Promote social inclusion, community participation and meaningful relationships.
  • Support people to exercise their rights and maximise independence.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to multidisciplinary support processes.

A panel may be formed as a result of this recruitment process from which future Support Worker (Care Assistant) vacancies, both Permanent Full-Time and Permanent Part-Time, arising within Corlann South Residential Services across Cork City, Cork suburbs and County Cork, may be filled during the lifetime of the panel, which will remain in place for up to 12 months.

The role of a Support Worker

Support Workers play a vital role in supporting people with intellectual disabilities to live meaningful, fulfilling and self-directed lives. The role involves providing person-centred support in all aspects of daily living while promoting independence, inclusion, dignity and individual choice.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Supporting people with personal care, health and wellbeing needs.
  • Assisting with daily living activities, including meal preparation, household tasks and community access.
  • Supporting individuals to achieve goals identified through person-centred planning and individual support plans.
  • Promoting social inclusion, community participation and the development of meaningful relationships.
  • Supporting people to exercise their rights, make informed choices and maximise their independence.
  • Maintaining accurate records and contributing to multidisciplinary and person-centred support processes.
The Candidate
  • Must hold a relevant QQI Level 5 Major Award (formerly FETAC) consisting of 8 modules, preferably in Healthcare Support, Health Service Skills or Childcare; or hold an SNA qualification;

or be undertaking a relevant Level 7 or Level 8 qualification in Social Care or Nursing.

  • Have a minimum of 6 months' experience supporting adults and/or children within the intellectual disability sector.
  • Hold a full, clean driving licence which qualifies the holder to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish roads, as driving service vehicles is an essential requirement of the role.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to person-centred practice, inclusion and the rights of people with disabilities.
  • Have experience supporting people with intellectual disabilities, autism and/or complex support needs, including behaviours of concern.
Reporting to:

Social Care Leader / Area Manager / Services Manager, or other authorised person as the Employing Authority may designate.

Salary Scale:

€34,881 - €48,494 including 1 LSI per annum (1/6/26 Department of Health Consolidated Scales). Part-Time hours will be paid pro-rata to a full-time post

  • Successful candidates are required to submit all documentary evidence outlining any relevant experience within 3 months of starting date. Failure to do so will mean that any incremental credit due now will only be paid from date of submission of documents.
