Corlann – West Region is seeking Staff Nurses and Enhanced Staff Nurses to support adults with intellectual disabilities, focusing on person-centred plans and promoting independence. The Beo Adult Services team in Galway operates under a 75-hour fortnight schedule on a 14-day duty roster.

The successful candidates will report to the service lead, contribute to developing plans, drive community integration, and deliver high-quality care.

Qualifications

  • Full clean manual driving licence is required to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish roads.
  • Experience with intellectual disability/autism/complex needs is desirable, training provided.

DESCRIPTION AND VISION OF SERVICES

Corlann – West Region provide a community based, person centred service focusing on the needs and abilities of children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The vision of Corlann is to support people with intellectual disabilities to achieve a full and valued life in their community, in line with best practice both nationally and internationally. Working in partnership with each person supported by Corlann, we aim to create opportunities for people supported by Corlann to have ordinary life experiences and to be closely connected to family and friends. We are committed to supporting people to live a life of their choosing, and the provision of quality services to meet the needs of the people we support.

BEO (Building Empowerment and Opportunities) Services in Galway city and Knocknacarra is a community-based service. The vision of the service is to support people with intellectual disabilities to achieve a full and valued life in their community. Our focus is to form a relationship/partnership with each individual and their family to support people to be valued citizens in their local community and to have ordinary life experiences.

Beo Adult Services provide a range of community-based servicesincluding day, residential, respite, community outreach, family support and a range of multidisciplinary support services. People are supported in day centres, supported employment, social and micro enterprises, training and education and these can be in groups or individualised. People are supported in residential settings in their own homes in the community individually and in groups. We wish to create opportunities for people who use our services to have valued social roles in their communities and to form friendships.

We wish to recruit innovative, creative and motivated people who will relish the opportunity to assist in achieving this vision as part of a team. We are looking for people who will be flexible and adapt to the needs of particular individuals they supportand is open to change.

Location:

Beo Adult Services (Knocknacarra Co Galway). Staff allocation could be either within residential/respite/day settings or in community services or in an individual’s own home. The appointee will initially commence working in one particular area of the Beo services and this work location may change due to future service needs.

The Role:

Staff Nurses and Enhanced Staff Nurses fulfil a key worker supportive and advocative role for adults supported by the service in all aspects of their lives, focusing on each individual’s ability and promoting independence and development of skills at all times. The Staff Nurse and Enhanced Staff Nurse will assist people with the development of person-centred plans and critically, will support people to make informed choices and fulfil their potential. They will encourage participation in the community through inclusive and creative thinking, seek opportunities for new experiences and encourage positive risk taking in leading to informed choices.

Qualifications & Experience:

Candidates must have -

· A current Live Register Certificate from the NMBI (An Bord Altranais) RNID qualification is essential, candidates who hold a RGN or RPN qualification may also be considered if they have experience of working in Intellectual Disability.

· A full clean manual Driving Licence, which qualifies you to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish Roads is an essential requirement.

· Experience of working with people with an intellectual disability/autism/complex needs is desirable, however, induction and training will be provided.

· Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement of this post and proficiency in I.T. skills.

· Leadership and networking skills - Staff Will be expected to network with local community groups and develop positive links for the people who use the service.

· Good organisational and planning skills, with the ability to support goal setting and following through to the achievement of outcomes

· Creativity, initiative, self-motivation, flexibility and good judgement

· Commitment to current best practice internationally and co-operating in an interdisciplinary team environment with a person-centred philosophy

Excellent listening skills, patience and a sense of humour

Working Hours:

  • 75 hours per fortnight

All posts are based on a 14-day duty roster. The successful candidate will be required to work days, evenings, weekends, public holidays, sleepovers and night duty to meet service needs.

Corlann model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures quality and person centred planning system requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each person supported

24 days pro rata per annum (pro-rata for part-time). Appropriate service related leave will be granted after 5 and 10 years’ service respectively.

Remuneration (Department of Health salary scales as at 01/06/2026 apply):

Staff Nurse - €38,166 x 12 increments - €54,956 per annum (pro-rata for part-time). Long Service Increment €56,592 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) is granted after 3 years on the maximum of the scale.

*Enhanced Nurse € 45,259 x 7 increments - €56,762 per annum (pro-rata for part-time). Long Service Increment €58,424 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) is granted after 3 years on the maximum of the scale.

Salary quoted is based on a 37.5 hour working week. The successful candidate will be granted incremental credit subject to satisfactory verification of previous relevant nursing service.

Additional payments will be made for weekends, public holidays, and sleep-ins and night duty when worked. A location allowance of €2,743 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) will also be paid when assigned to services where 75% of the persons supported have a diagnosis of severe/profound intellectual disability.

  • X1 temporary full-time and pensionable.

A panel may be formed as a result of this process from which subsequent permanent, temporary or fixed term Staff Nurse / Enhanced Nurse appointments within the Beo Service location may be offered over the next 6 months.

A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post. The employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment. The probation period may be extended at the Employer’s discretion.
