Job summary

Corlann – West Region is seeking a Social Care Worker to support adults with varying needs in campus and community settings. You will provide person-centred care, enable participation in activities and work with teams to promote independence.

The role requires CORU registration or eligibility, a clean driving licence, and fluency in English with IT skills. There is a 39-hour baseline week and 78-hour fortnight with flexible duties across a 14-day roster.

Qualifications

  • Full clean manual driving licence; Class D1 may be required.
  • Experience with intellectual disability/autism desirable; induction/training provided.

Location:

John Paul Adult Services provides a combination of campus and community based services to adults with varying support needs, based on personal outcome measures. Our services are currently undergoing a transition from a campus based service to community living, where we aim to create opportunities for the people we support to be valued citizens in their communities and to have everyday life experiences.

Our focus is to form a partnership with the people we support and their families to ensure each individual lives their best life. We wish to recruit innovative, creative, visionary people who will relish the opportunity to assist in achieving this vision. Candidates need to be flexible and adapt to the needs of particular individual’s they support on a daily basis.

The Role:

The Social Care Worker will report to the Team Leader and will fulfil a key worker role for individuals and aim to provide a safe, secure environment where individuals will participate in community and leisure activities, make choices and enjoy a lifestyle that fulfils their potential and expectations with opportunity for new experiences.

Qualifications/Experience:

The successful candidate must have –

  • Be registered in the Social Care Workers Register maintained by the Social Care Workers Registration Board – CORU Or Be eligible under the Section 91 (existing practitioner) route for registration in the Social Care Workers Register maintained by the Social Care Workers Registration Board - CORU (evidence of application status is necessary)
  • A full clean manual Driving Licence, which qualifies you to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish roads is an essential requirement. It may also be necessary for the appointee to obtain a Class D1 Driving Licence (if not already in possession of one). Assistance will be given towards this purpose of obtaining a class D1 licence.
  • Experience of working with people with an intellectual disability /autism/complex needs is desirable, however, induction and training will be provided.
  • Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement of this post and proficiency in I.T. skills.

Skills:

  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, with the ability to set goals, put into action and follow through.
  • The ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms.
  • Excellent listening skills, creativity and initiative, be innovative and self-motivated, have the ability to exercise good judgement, discretion and confidentiality, patience and a sense of humour
  • Commitment to current best practice internationally and co-operating in an interdisciplinary team environment with a person-centred philosophy
  • Staff will be expected to network with local community groups and develop positive links for the individuals who use the service.
  • Keep up to date with current practice within the area of intellectual disability.

Working Hours:

  • 78 hours a fortnight

All posts are based on a 14-day duty roster. The successful candidates may be required to work to accommodate an integrated day service, with weekend work, some split duty hours, public holidays, evening/night duty and sleep-ins to meet service needs.

Corlann’s model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures quality and person centred planning system requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each person supported

22 days per annum (pro-rata for part-time), i.e. 8.46 hours per 100 hours worked. Appropriate service related leave will be granted after 5 and 10 years’ service respectively.

Remuneration:

Department of Health Social Care Worker salary scale as at 01/06/2026 apply: €41,260 x 11 increments - €56,717 per annum (pro-rata for part-time). A long service increment €57,789 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) is payable after 3 years on the maximum of the scale.

Additional payments will be made for weekends, public holidays and night duty when worked.

Salary quoted is based on a 39 hour working week. The successful candidate will be granted incremental credit subject to satisfactory verification of previous public sector service.

This post is permanent full-time and pensionable.

A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post.
