Job summary

The Software Lead role at MCS Group is an opportunity to shape engineering at a growing Irish software start-up. You’ll split time between hands-on coding in C#/.NET and making architectural decisions, while mentoring engineers and shaping delivery across Angular front-ends and .NET back-ends.

Based in Dublin city centre, this office-led environment offers ownership of feature work, sprint planning, and the chance to grow your own team as the business scales.

Qualifications

• Senior or Lead engineer with hands-on coding and leadership responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of new product features from design through to production.
• Remain hands-on with C#/.NET and contribute to technical decisions.
• Lead, mentor and develop software engineers.
• Review code and set engineering standards.
• Make architectural decisions around APIs, data models and service boundaries.
• Drive quality across unit, integration and E2E testing.
• Work with Product and Design to translate requirements into deliverables.
• Own sprint planning, estimation and delivery.
• Assist in hiring and growing the engineering team.
• Collaborate with Platform team on performance, scalability, reliability and security.

I'm working with an exciting Irish software start-up that's entering a major growth phase and looking to appoint a Software Lead to help build and grow one of its core software engineering teams.

This is a brilliant opportunity for a Senior or Lead Software Engineer who wants to take the next step into engineering leadership, without giving up the hands-on technical work they enjoy.

You'll be joining a growing product company where you'll have real influence over how software is built, work directly with senior engineering leadership and gradually build out your own team as the business scales.

This is a start-up environment and very much an office led culture - the team works together from their Dublin City Centre office 3/4 days per week.

The role...

This is a hands-on leadership position where you'll split your time between writing code, making technical decisions, delivering product features and developing the engineers around you.

You'll take ownership of feature delivery across a modern .NET and Angular environment, working closely with Product, Design, QA and Platform Engineering.

As the company grows, so will your team and your leadership responsibilities, making this a great opportunity for someone who ultimately wants to lead a larger engineering team and progress further into engineering management.

What you'll be doing...

• Leading the delivery of new product features from design through to production
• Remaining hands-on with C#/.NET and contributing to technical decisions
• Leading, mentoring and developing software engineers
• Reviewing code and setting strong engineering standards
• Making architectural decisions around APIs, data models and service boundaries
• Driving quality across unit, integration and E2E testing
• Working closely with Product and Design to turn requirements into deliverable engineering work
• Taking ownership of sprint planning, estimation and delivery
• Helping hire and grow the engineering team
• Working closely with the Platform team around performance, scalability, reliability and security

About you...

You don't necessarily need to already have Software Lead on your CV.

You could be a Senior Software Engineer or Technical Lead who's already mentoring developers, reviewing code, influencing architecture and taking ownership of delivery - and you're now ready for the opportunity to formally lead and grow a team.

You'll ideally have:

• Angular or strong modern frontend experience
• Experience building and shipping software products
• Good understanding of APIs, databases and scalable application design
• Experience mentoring or leading other engineers
• A strong approach to testing and software quality
• The confidence to work closely with Product and other areas of the business
• The ability to thrive in a fast-moving start-up where you'll have plenty of ownership
