Job summary

MCS Group is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to take ownership of a core software platform across a modern TypeScript stack, including a Node.js/NestJS backend, React admin portal and Next.js customer site hosted on AWS.

You’ll work with an external partner initially, then help bring development in-house, shaping engineering practices and delivering practical platform improvements and features.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software development experience with TypeScript, Node.js/NestJS and React/Next.js.
• Experience building production applications on AWS with infrastructure as code (AWS CDK).
• Strong MySQL knowledge including schema design, indexing and performance.
• Experience integrating third‑party APIs, payments or identity verification services.
• Strong focus on automated testing, CI/CD and application security.
• Experience using AI-assisted development workflows and clear testing practices.
• Ability to work independently and communicate clearly with technical and non‑technical colleagues.
• Stamp 4 or EU Citizenship required.

MCS Group is proud to be supporting an established business operating across the UK and Ireland in hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help take ownership of its core software platform.

This role would suit someone who enjoys hands on development, solving technical problems and having a meaningful say in how a product evolves. You'll work across a modern TypeScript stack, including a Node.js/NestJS backend, React administrative portal and Next.js customer-facing website, hosted on AWS.

You'll initially work closely with an external development partner, building your understanding of the platform and helping bring development capability in-house. Alongside delivering features and improvements, you'll help establish the processes and engineering practices that support its ongoing development.

(Dublin - 5 days on-site)

What you'll be doing:

• Developing new features, enhancements and bug fixes across backend services and frontend applications
• Maintaining APIs, MySQL databases and third-party integrations, including payments and identity verification services
• Improving application performance, accessibility, reliability and the customer experience
• Supporting real-time functionality, search capabilities and efficient content delivery
• Working with the existing development partner to support knowledge transfer and build internal ownership
• Contributing to automated testing, CI/CD pipelines and AWS infrastructure using infrastructure as code
• Monitoring and troubleshooting production services, with a strong focus on security and maintainability
• Using AI-assisted development tools across planning, implementation, testing, code review and documentation
• Working closely with product and operational teams to understand requirements and deliver practical improvements

What you'll bring:

• 5+ years' relevant software development experience, with strong TypeScript, Node.js/NestJS and React/Next.js skills
• Practical experience developing and supporting production applications on AWS, alongside infrastructure as code using AWS CDK
• Strong MySQL knowledge, including schema design, indexing, performance optimisation and TypeORM migrations
• Experience integrating third-party APIs, webhooks and payment or identity verification services
• A strong approach to automated testing, CI/CD and application security
• Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development workflows, ideally including Claude Code, with clear testing and review practices
• The confidence to work independently, investigate issues and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical colleagues
• Kindly note Stamp 4 or EU Citizenship required.

Experience with real-time systems, Socket.IO, AWS AppSync, OpenSearch or Next.js SEO and performance optimisation would also be useful.
