Job summary

AECOM Ireland seeks a driven Principal Engineer to lead Roads, Public Transport and Greenways design delivery. You will guide multi-disciplinary teams from concept through to construction, shaping national infrastructure programmes across Dublin, Cork, Galway and beyond.

The role calls for significant post-graduate experience in civil engineering, highways and public transport, plus Chartership or progression toward it. Hybrid working and a clear career path are offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering or similar preferred.
• Chartered Engineer status or working toward Chartership is desirable.
• Significant post-graduate experience in civil engineering, highways, rail, public transport or greenways/active travel.
• Solid understanding of UK and Ireland design standards (e.g. TII PMG/PMM, DMRB, DMURS, LTN 1/20, LTN 1/24, NTA Cycle Design Manual).
• Experience preparing contract documentation for major transport projects (NEC/Public Works Contract) and associated specifications.
• Experience with statutory planning and design approvals in the UK and/or Ireland.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and coordinate design packages on complex infrastructure programmes.
• Lead technical design teams from concept to construction.
• Oversee major transport projects, bus infrastructure, and greenways.
• Deliver high-quality deliverables within time and budget constraints.
• Mentor junior engineers and apprentices and contribute to knowledge transfer.
• Support work-winning through quality and commercial input.
