Elastic in Ireland seeks a Senior Software Engineer for the Elasticsearch Storage Engine. You will design and optimize the core storage and query engine within a globally distributed, fully remote team.

The role focuses on high-performance storage, indexing layouts, and efficient query execution within observability workloads. Ideal candidates have strong Java, concurrency, and distributed systems experience, plus a track record of using AI to accelerate development and improve code quality.

Qualifications

• Proficient in Java with strong concurrency primitives.
• Extensive experience building high-performance storage/DB or distributed systems.
• Experience with storage, indexing, and query execution optimization.
• Ability to design scalable architectures and optimize resource usage.
• Strong collaboration across distributed teams and mentoring capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead architectural evolution of core storage engine components and resolve bottlenecks.
• Drive cross-organizational initiatives for observability solutions.
• Collaborate with globally distributed engineers focused on logs and metrics in Elasticsearch.
• Advise on clean coding practices and architectural clarity across the platform.
• Act as SME in Elasticsearch areas and mentor others.
• Triaging, resolving, and reviewing issues with domain experts.
• Write idiomatic Java; Elasticsearch is largely Java.
