Elasticsearch B.V. in Ireland is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team and advance scale, performance, and resilience for our Serverless offering.

You will tackle deep distributed systems challenges related to node communication, data indexing, allocation, and management across the cluster. You will own core components, improve concurrency and indexing, maintain cluster coordination, and push shard and node scales.

Qualifications

• Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
• Strong Java skills and knowledge of standard data structures and concurrency.
• Experience building large-scale distributed systems with broad impact.
• Ability to own projects end-to-end and collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core pieces of the serverless Elasticsearch offering.
• Improve components that support concurrent and consistent indexing across machines.
• Maintain cluster coordination to keep performance as nodes join/leave and data moves.
• Push the limits on shards, nodes, and petabytes handled by Elasticsearch.
• Investigate performance/concurrency issues and propose solutions.
• Support and mentor engineers while owning end-to-end investigations.
