Job summary

WSP is seeking a Senior Safety Consultant in Rail and Transit to deliver safety engineering and assurance services for complex rail projects, including certification and authorisation work. You will mentor junior consultants and collaborate with clients to achieve project objectives.

You will lead risk management, systems engineering, and safety assurance across UK and international rail initiatives, with a strong emphasis on governance and regulatory compliance, while enjoying hybrid working

Qualifications

• Experience delivering safety engineering and assurance services to rail projects.
• Background in risk management, systems engineering, safety engineering and/or interoperability.
• Civil engineering background preferred.
• Experience in major rail infrastructure projects, UK/consultancy highly desirable.
• Experience in railway stations projects, track and civils works.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple activities.
• Ability to write proposals and develop client relationships.
• Strong communication and teamwork.
• Cyber security experience encouraged but not required.

Responsibilities

• Leading complex rail safety engineering and assurance services to engineering projects, applying methods and tools aligned with key standards such EN50126, EN50129, IEC 61508, CSM-RA and/or and the Railways Interoperability Regulations (RIR).
• Leading certification and authorisation projects, such as new railway stations, through the assessment of National Technical Specification Notices (NTSNs), Infrastructure and PRM, and National Technical Rules (NTRs), such as GIRT7020 and GIRT7073.
• Leading the bidding, winning, and successful delivery of complexed commercially viable projects, collaborating with clients to understand their objectives and desired outcomes for each project.
• Contributing to a diverse range of exciting projects, including safety assurance management, safety approvals, and CSM work for major infrastructure projects such as the National Train Control Centre in Dublin, Crewe Hub remodelling, and East Coast Mainline.
• Providing support to contractors in completing CSM and approvals for station and civils works.
• Working on global projects spanning Australia, the US, Canada, Asia and the Middle East. You can contribute to these projects from the UK, without the necessity of travel.
• Demonstrating flexibility by effectively managing multiple activities and proactively balancing workload across different projects and customers.
• Leading interactive workshops with clients and stakeholders.
