Job summary

WSP is seeking a Systems Safety Engineer to join the MetroLink programme in Ireland. You will lead safety across the lifecycle, review designs, and interface with civil, stations, signalling, power, rolling stock, telecoms and operations to ensure robust safety outcomes.

You will work with contractors and engineers to embed safety, manage safety requirements, monitor compliance with railway standards, and deliver progress updates with risk mitigations for one of Ireland's landmark infrastructure

Qualifications

  • Degree level qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline.
  • Background in a rail engineering environment.
  • Experienced in leading discipline engineers through the design, construction, and integration phases of a project.
  • Advanced knowledge of managing Design-Build (DB) contractors and developing system and sub-system specifications that meet customer requirements.
  • Proven capability in managing design resources and coordinating deliverable outputs.
  • Experience of project controls, programme management, and technical reporting.
  • Expertise in systems engineering lifecycle activities, including design, development, production, integration, verification, validation, and acceptance.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and enforce the System Engineering requirements across the MetroLink team.
  • Review system, subsystem, and interface designs to ensure safety requirements are adequately addressed.
  • Support allocation and traceability of safety requirements through engineering documentation.
  • Interface with multidisciplinary engineering teams to embed safety into design solutions.
  • Contribute to design reviews, technical workshops, and interface coordination meetings.
  • Attend meetings with different teams to ensure contractors are following up on the agreed outcome.
  • Proactively monitor project progress, identifying and resolving issues, and implementing strategic solutions to maintain project momentum.
  • Deliver comprehensive updates on the project's progress and status, including the identification of any risks that arise and recommend necessary mitigation strategies to minimise these risks.
  • Analyse and keep up to date with safety regulations and standards both in Ireland and internationally.
  • Perform additional tasks, activities or other duties as may be required or assigned as part of the role.
