Job summary

The Electricity Supply Board (ESB) seeks a Senior Professional Electrical Engineer, Commissioning, to lead complex HV substation commissioning projects and develop standards in line with international best practice. The successful candidate will coordinate across multiple teams to optimize delivery and ensure safety, quality and timely operation.

Based in Dublin or Cork, the role involves on-site responsibilities, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to commissioning work instructions

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years HV commissioning experience.
• Full approval to issue Declarations of Fitness to the system controller.
• Full EU driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex commissioning projects in high voltage substations, ensuring equipment meets all technical requirements before going into service.
• Perform and assess all on site testing associated with HV Commissioning.
• Coordinate with design specialists to resolve recurring issues and mentor team members.
• Develop and maintain commissioning work instructions and departmental procedures.
• Lead fault investigations and provide improvement recommendations.

The HV Substations Delivery department in Networks Engineering, ESB Engineering & Major Projects is the centre of engineering design and project delivery for ESB’s Transmission & Distribution deliverables.

The Commissioning & SCS Teams inHV Substations Deliveryverifiesthat the HV Substation equipmentis fit for connection to the relevant HV system through the issue of a declaration of fitness certificate to the System Controller.

TheSenior Commissioning Engineerwill use their experience in Commissioning High voltage projects to deliver multi discipline projectsand lead the development of commissioning standards and procedures, to modern international-best-practice. TheSenior Commissioning Engineerwill coordinate withvarious teams acrossHV SubstationsDeliverytooptimizethe delivery of HV projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead complex commissioning projects in high voltage substations, ensuring equipment meetsall technical requirements before going into service.
• Perform and assess all on site testing associated withHV Commissioning
• Work with design specialists to resolve recurring technical issues and provide relevant training whererequiredas well as manage quality of pre-commissioning activities to drive a quality culture within E&MP.
• Provide technical support, training,and advice to existing and new members of the commissioning & Design teamsto develop their competency, leading mentor projects in process.
• Contribute to the development of work instructionsanddepartmental procedureswhich are used by the wider commissioning team.
• Provide technical experience to reviewinternal andcontract designs, input and review de-commissioning documents and provide any technical advice required.
• Lead fault investigations, carry out detailed analysis and provide recommendations for improvement.

Experience and Qualifications

• Relevant HV Commissioning experience with full approval to issue Declarations of Fitness (DOF) to the system controller.
• A minimum of 5 years relevant experience in the High Voltage Transmission and Distribution industry
• Experienced in all aspects of operationalsafety.
• Experience in testing High voltage primary plant and associated secondary equipment such as protection schemes
• Proven ability to work in a team to a high level of performance.
• A strong work ethic with a clear focus on delivery to ESB’s safety, time,quality,and cost objectives.
• A flexible approach to work as per commissioning requirements.
• As this is a site based role, a fullEUDriving licence (orrecognised equivalent) is required for any potential candidate.
• Active involvement in international engineering organisations such as CIGRÉ, IEEE and IET (e.g. participation in Working Groups)
• Demonstrable ability to compile and contribute to Commissioning Work instructions and Departmental Procedures.

Location

The succesful candidate will be based in either The Sidings, Dublin or East Gate Cork, but travel to and working at various project locations as required, is a key requirement of the role

The successful candidate will report to the appropriate substation Commissioning Team Leader, HV Substations Delivery, Engineering & Major Projects.
