Job summary

Electricity Supply Board (ESB) is seeking a Project Engineer to deliver major network projects across Ireland from Dublin or Cork. The role requires extensive project management experience, engagement with contractors, and a strong HV/engineering background. Hybrid working and nationwide travel are part of the role.

You will support the Project Manager and lead tendering, interfaces across procurement and design, and ensure safety, quality and schedule adherence in line with ESB standards.

Qualifications

• Seven or more years’ experience in project management/delivery, ideally within the electricity industry.
• Level 8 Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering or equivalent work experience is essential.
• Experience dealing with construction contractors to ensure that they deliver to specified requirements.
• Excellent knowledge of PSDP and PSCS processes.
• Chartered status or another relevant accreditation.

Responsibilities

• Support the Project Manager in delivering capital projects safely, efficiently and in line with programme, quality and stakeholder requirements.
• Contractor and Construction Management – develop and manage project programmes and monitor and manage contractors’ construction and commissioning schedules.
• Lead the tender process including preparation of documents, evaluation and negotiation.
• Oversee project interfaces such as procurement, design, free issue material, power cables, telecoms.
• Coordinate project requirements into overall ESB/ EirGrid outage schedules.
• Review contestable substation civil designs and complete site audits to support connection of customer projects into the grid.

Job description

We are looking for Project Engineer’s with at least 7 years’ experience in delivering engineering projects and project management, ideally in the electricity industry. There are a number of roles within Project Management teams including those focused on Overhead lines, substations, cables and contestable projects.

In support of ESB’s strategic objectives to decarbonise electricity and build resilient infrastructure, you will play a key role in delivering major network projects that support Ireland’s energy transition and the future development of ESB Networks

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Project Manager in delivering capital projects safely, efficiently and in line with programme, quality and stakeholder requirements.
• Contractor and Construction Management – Develop andmanageprojectprogrammes and monitor and manage contractors’construction andcommissioning schedules.
• Lead the tender process including preparation of documents, evaluation and negotiation.

• For Contestable Civil Role: Review contestable substation civil designs and complete site audits and prepare due diligence reports to support the connection of Customer projects into the grid in line with ESB Networks standards
• Develop effective working relationships with key stakeholders across ESB, external agencies and contestable customers to support successful project delivery.

Experience and Qualifications

• Sevenor more years’ experience in project management/delivery, ideally within the electricity industry.
• Level 8 Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering or equivalent work experience is essential
• Experience dealing with construction contractors to ensure that they deliverto specified requirements.
• Excellent knowledge ofPSDP and PSCS processes.
• Excellentunderstanding of key elements of construction and projectmanagement.
• Hold a full driving licence and have access to a car.
• Flexibility to travel nationwide
• Excellentunderstanding of key elements of HighVoltage (HV)and Electricaldesign.
• Constructionexperience across a wide range of high voltage engineering projects, for example, Substations, Overhead Line and underground cables projects
• Project Management Qualification
• Chartered status or another relevant accreditation

Location

This position will be based in the Sidings, Grand Canal, Dublin 2 or Eastgate Office, Cork. Travel to site nationwide will be an important part of this role.

Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.

€71,000 to €84,000 per annum
