Job summary

ESB is seeking an Overhauls Team Leader – Electrical in Dublin to lead a team of electrical engineers in delivering overhaul projects across generation assets. You will drive technical input from design to handover, coordinate safe and efficient delivery, and oversee procurement and contract activities for overhaul work.

The role requires strong leadership, extensive experience in power generation or heavy industry, and the ability to travel nationally and internationally.

Qualifications

The Generation Engineering department in ESB Engineering & Major Projects (EMP) is the centre of engineering for ESB’s generation businesses. The Projects & Overhauls department function within Generation Engineering is to aide ESB Generation & Trading (G&T) in the delivery of overhauls & outages across the asset portfolio, both thermal & Hydro focused.

We currently have an opportunity for Overhauls Team Leader – Electrical, within the Projects & Overhauls Team in Generation Engineering. The successful candidate will support ESB with the management & delivery of overhaul (OH) projects on existing assets for ESB G&T, leading a team of (Mid & Senior Level) Electrical Engineers in the delivery of same.

Suitable candidates will aide in the technical delivery of electrical plant overhauls across the ESB Generation portfolio. Aligned with same, candidates should have a background in construction, commissioning, maintenance & operation of:

• MV/LV Switchgear & Technologies
• Electrical Control - Systems & Protections
• Power Generation Electrical Balance of Plant Technologies.
• Solid understanding on Power Generation Control Systems (DCS).
• Other heavy industrial experience as applicable.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited, to the following:

• Manage the electrical engineering team in OH project delivery: Provide team leadership & technical input on electrical OH projects from inception, specification, procurement, design review, installation, commissioning & handover phases.
• Support Overhaul Planning & Programme: Aide the OH Programme & Project Managers in the planning phase through to safe & efficient delivery of electrical plant scopes aligned with Overhaul / Outage programmes.
• Undertake leadership role & development of team: Perform direct report management & develop the team in technical competency in Power Generation asset infrastructure, project management, quality control & safety methodology in large project delivery. Advance team plant appreciation through facilitating specialist asset focused training courses.
• Key stakeholder liaison: In all OH Programme phases & as directed by OH Project Managers, liaise effectively with key stakeholders, Generation Asset Specialists, Programme/ Project Managers, Plant Managers, Procurement Category Managers, Project Engineering team & Senior Management.
• Support the Asset Management Process: Support Generation Asset Specialists on technical inspections in OH programmes, reporting on assets condition assessments & aide in the Long-Term Asset Planning processes.
• Procurement & Contract Management: Working in conjunction with OH Project Managers, formulate & implement procurement plans with electrical engineering team, including specification generation, tendering, evaluations & awards. In OH implementation phase, lead the management of key electrical contracts as assigned.
• Safety Compliance: Ensure all OH project works comply with statutory safety, health, & environmental regulations, ESB Technical Standards & Guidelines. Where required, carry out authorized roles under the safety rules (Safe Systems of Work).
• Inspection & Test Plans: Working closely with Generation Asset specialists, develop & manage the implementation of defined asset Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
• Audits & Reporting: In conjunction with electrical engineering direct reports, conduct regular safety, environmental, quality audits & undertake reporting to management.

Experience and Qualifications

• Proven track record of significant experience in the power generation or heavy industrial sector. A minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience is required.
• Experience managing people & teams, with the ability to work & share knowledge/ competencies within a team structure.
• Strong individual & strategic leadership skills, with the capability to effectively communicate & influence through solid interpersonal skills.
• The candidate will possess competence in design, construction, commissioning, maintenance or operation of electrical systems in power generation or related heavy industrial sector.
• Working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environment Standards and procedures.
• Strong knowledge of PSDP and PSCS processes.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to manage stakeholders, to work and share knowledge within a team structure and to make quality decisions and judgements.
• The candidate will possess project engineering and project management skills, strong time management and prioritisation skills.
• Strong communication, report writing skills and proficient computer skills (including MS Office).
• Flexibility, which is important in all aspects of the role, including travel nationally & internationally.
• Full clean driving license (B car licence)
• Primary Degree in Electrical Engineering (Level 8 NFQ) or equivalent relevant work experience.
• Chartered Engineering status with a recognised engineering institution or demonstrable evidence of progress towards same is preferred.

Location

ESB Engineering and Major Projects office, The Sidings, Grand Canal Dock, Dublin 2 or EMP Eastgate Cork. Due to the nature of the work most time will be spent on site for the preparation and delivery of overhaul works. Flexibility is important in this role as the role may require include travel both nationally & internationally.
