Job description

Location: Dublin, Allenwood and project sites as required

Salary: Commensurate with experience

The Opportunity

Select Group is looking for a capable, practical Senior HR Generalist to become the operational number two in our growing HR team.

This is a broad, hands-on role for someone who enjoys working close to the business. You will partner directly with managers, take ownership of everyday employee relations and recruitment, help embed meaningful performance management, coordinate learning and capability activity, and ensure agreed people actions move from conversation to completion.

You will work closely with the Head of HR and Marketing, who will retain the more complex, sensitive and strategic agenda. You will also work in partnership with our HR and Office Operations Coordinator, who provides systems, documentation and lifecycle administration support. Together, the team supports Select Roofing and Cladding, Select Access and Select Fabrications as the Group continues to grow in Ireland and develops its UK workforce.

What You Will Own
  • Routine and lower-complexity employee relations, including attendance, probation, performance, disciplinary and grievance matters.
  • End-to-end recruitment for operative, junior and mid-level roles, including direct sourcing and recurring trade requirements.
  • The practical operation of established KPI, probation and performance-review frameworks, with strong manager coaching and follow-through.
  • Employee lifecycle oversight, induction delivery and day-to-day benefits coordination.
  • Operational learning and development coordination, including a meaningful Group skills and competency matrix.
  • Clear, responsive HR support for employees and managers across offices, operational locations and project sites.
  • HR improvement projects, including an applicant tracking system, manager toolkits, Chime adoption and recruitment-process improvement.
  • Support for UK recruitment and onboarding, with appropriate day-to-day UK HR responsibilities moving into the role as the operation develops.
What We Are Looking For
  • Approximately three to five years of relevant HR experience, with practical exposure to employee relations and recruitment.
  • A sound working knowledge of Irish employment practices and confidence managing routine HR matters independently.
  • Experience supporting and coaching managers, particularly around performance, attendance and difficult conversations.
  • Strong recruitment capability and a willingness to source candidates directly rather than relying only on agencies.
  • Good judgement: you know what you can resolve, what requires a formal process and when a matter should be escalated.
  • Clear written communication, strong organisation and a consistent habit of following actions through to completion.
  • The confidence to build credibility with site-based employees, operational managers and senior leaders.
  • A full driving licence and willingness to travel regularly between Dublin, Allenwood and operational locations.

Experience in construction, engineering, manufacturing, facilities, logistics, hospitality, retail or another operationally intensive environment would be useful, but it is not essential. Previous UK HR experience is not required.

Who Will Thrive Here

You are likely to enjoy this role if you are approachable, grounded and action-oriented. You like understanding how the business really works, are comfortable when priorities move quickly, and can challenge a manager constructively without becoming bureaucratic or overly policy-led. You want enough ownership to make a visible difference, while having access to senior HR support when the risk or complexity warrants it.

Why Join Select Group
  • A genuine operational number-two role with meaningful ownership rather than a narrow support remit.
  • Direct exposure to a growing, multi-company construction and engineering Group.
  • The opportunity to shape how established HR frameworks are embedded across the business.
  • Progressive UK and international HR exposure as the Group expands.
  • A collaborative HR team with dedicated coordination and systems support.

Select Group is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from candidates whose experience has been gained in different operational sectors and assess applicants on the capability relevant to the role.
