Job summary

Ethos, a multidisciplinary consultancy, is seeking a Senior Project Engineer – Mechanical to lead retrofit projects in data centres across Europe. You will design, specify, and deliver mechanical systems in live environments while maintaining operational continuity.

With 8+ years in building services and Chartered status, you will mentor engineers, manage scope and budgets, and engage clients and contractors to meet high standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 8 years in building services engineering with 3+ years in data centres.
• Experience in live data centre environments; brownfield upgrades.
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartership.
• Proven track record managing multi‑million euro MEP projects.
• Strong knowledge of Irish/EU building regs; LEED/BREEAM a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services upgrades within live data centre environments.
• Develop retrofit design strategies including tie‑ins to live systems and outage planning.
• Perform or oversee technical due diligence of existing data centre facilities.
• Prepare detailed design drawings, schedules, reports and tender docs.
• Manage project scope, budget, programme and contracts.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and vendors to avoid operational disruption.
• Drive QA and governance across projects.
• Mentor junior engineers and support development.
• Contribute to proposals and technical strategies for retrofit opportunities in EMEA.
• Champion innovation and continuous improvement of retrofit delivery.
