Job summary

Grafana Labs, a remote-first company building observability tools, seeks a Senior Software (Database) Engineer to help build the storage layer of a general‑purpose data platform. You will design ingestion, query planning, distributed execution, and storage formats while supporting multi-tenant SaaS and running the service with strong observability.

You’ll work in a high-autonomy team, making pragmatic architectural decisions, and collaborating across product and infrastructure as the team

Qualifications

Sizable experience building production-grade software systems.
Experience with distributed systems and cloud-native environments.

Responsibilities

Take ownership over and build one or multiple parts of the database: Design, implement, test, and operate ingestion, query planning, distributed query execution, data formats, storage formats.
Create a scalable SaaS foundation: Define and build the architecture for a multi-tenant database service, including tenant isolation, usage tracking, quotas, audit logs, background jobs, and reliable service boundaries.
Power agent-facing retrieval workflows: Build APIs and database interfaces for AI agents and internal apps to retrieve data quickly.
Operate what you build: Instrument services with metrics, logs, traces, alerts, and dashboards; use observability tools to improve reliability.
Contribute to technical direction: Shape architecture, storage choices, deployment patterns, and engineering practices for a new product area.
