Job summary

Johnson & Johnson in Cork, Ireland, seeks an Automation Manager to lead the Automation and Manufacturing Systems team at a large orthopaedic manufacturing site. You will oversee reliability, lifecycle, compliance, and the strategic development of manufacturing automation and data platforms, partnering with Operations, Maintenance, Process Engineering, Quality, IT, and suppliers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation, Information Technology, Science, or related discipline.
• 8+ years in GMP-regulated manufacturing or related environment with leadership responsibilities.
• 3+ years of people-management experience.
• Experience supporting and troubleshooting manufacturing automation and control systems in live production.
• Experience delivering automated equipment through design, integration, commissioning, validation, and ramp-up.
• Knowledge of PLC/HMI systems, robotics, industrial networks, and manufacturing data platforms.
• PM certification or 3+ years of project management, fluent English, and ability to travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

• Lead site automation support for production equipment and systems, including escalation processes and out-of-hours support.
• Diagnose and resolve faults across PLC/HMI, robotics, motion, vision systems, networks, historians, interfaces, and data platforms.
• Lead automation activities for new equipment from concept to validation and ramp-up.
• Define and approve automation architectures, standards, data requirements, cybersecurity, interfaces, and maintainability.
• Own site roadmap and lifecycle for manufacturing systems including OEE, OT networks, hist data, and interfaces.
• Develop and deliver a prioritized automation roadmap, investments, project portfolio, and resource strategy.
• Support investigations, CAPAs, audits, and regulatory inspections with timely closure of actions.
• Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing, inclusive team with clear objectives and budgets.
