Job summary

Tyndall National Institute in Ireland seeks a Senior ALD Process Engineer to lead development, optimisation and operation of ALD and related thin‑film processes for next‑generation semiconductor devices.

You will design DoEs, mentor researchers, and collaborate across teams while enabling robust, scalable deposition workflows and integration into wider fabrication flows. The role emphasizes ALD for TMDs/oxide semiconductors/high‑k materials with a strong safety and documentation focus.

Qualifications

• MSc degree in physics, materials science, chemistry, electronic engineering or a related discipline.
• Typically five years’ hands-on experience operating, developing and optimising ALD processes, preferably in semiconductor R&D or cleanroom.
• Demonstrable experience with ALD process development, including recipe development and optimisation, process monitoring and stability.
• Experience with advanced thin‑film, materials, interface and device characterisation techniques (XPS, AFM, ellipsometry, TEM, SEM, XRD, electrical).
• Familiarity with safety protocols, hazardous-material handling and compliance in lab environments.

Responsibilities

• Take technical ownership of designated ALD processes, establishing stable baseline processes with defined operating windows and process controls.
• Lead day‑to‑day operation, monitoring and maintenance of ALD tools within the lab, ensuring safe and reliable performance.
• Develop, optimise and qualify ALD processes for TMDs, oxide semiconductors, high‑k dielectrics and multilayer structures.
• Design, implement and analyse DoEs to identify key parameters and establish process windows.
• Support process transfer from lab demonstrations to wafer-scale fabrication and technology transfer.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers, interns and researchers.
