Job summary

Mastercard seeks a Principal AI Engineer within the BET organization to lead technology strategy for new opportunities and scale AI-enabled capabilities. You will influence architecture, assess feasibility, and guide high-impact initiatives across teams.

Collaborating with product, data science, and engineering across geographies, you will shape solutions, prioritize initiatives, and mentor engineers while ensuring alignment with Mastercard security, reliability, and governance standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years building distributed, production-grade software in an agile environment.
• Strong backend experience with Java, Kotlin, Python, or Scala.
• Experience leading large, cross-team features or platforms.
• Ability to balance business needs with technical strategy.
• Deep knowledge of APIs, services, asynchronous workflows, and distributed architectures.
• Experience with authentication, security, and scalable, compliant systems.
• Experience with AI/ML-enabled workflows and agent frameworks.
• Experience mentoring engineers and influencing architectural decisions.
• Excellent cross-functional collaboration across geographies.

Responsibilities

• Serve as senior technology and architecture advisor for new opportunities.
• Partner with product, business, and engineering to shape hypotheses and business cases.
• Assess build, partner, invest, acquire pathways and provide technical recommendations.
• Identify risks early and guide architecture decisions through incubation to scale.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to engineering standards.
