Job summary

Retail Deli Manager Co. Westmeath is a well-regarded retail brand seeking an experienced Catering/Deli Manager to lead the deli and fresh foods team, ensure top quality, manage stock, waste and profitability, and uphold food safety standards.

The role manages about 10 staff, works 43 hours per week, with a salary of €40,000–€45,000, pension, staff discount and VHI. Starts early mornings 5:30–6:00am and midday shifts.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the deli department, ensuring high standards of food quality, freshness, presentation and customer service.
• Lead, motivate and develop a team of approximately 10 team members, managing rotas, training, performance and daily task allocation.
• Take responsibility for departmental sales, profit and loss (P&L), monitoring performance against targets and identifying opportunities to improve profitability.
• Manage stock levels, ordering, deliveries and supplier relationships to ensure product availability and minimise waste.
• Monitor departmental costs, including labour, stock loss and wastage, implementing effective controls to maximise profitability.
• Ensure full compliance with food safety, hygiene, health and safety regulations, allergen management and company procedures.
• Maintain excellent merchandising and product presentation standards, ensuring the deli counter is well-stocked and appealing to customers.
• Monitor sales trends and customer demand to optimise product availability and maximise sales opportunities.
• Handle customer queries and complaints professionally, ensuring a positive customer experience.
• Work closely with senior management to achieve departmental targets and maintain consistent operational standards.

This is a well-regarded and forward-thinking retail brand known for its strong operational policies and commitment to best practices. The store itself is a compact yet well-equipped convenience outlet, modern spec. Their Deli and fresh food grab & Go makes up almost 50% of the store's sales, and is staffed by a team of up to 10. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Catering Manager, Senior Deli Manager or Senior Fresh Food Manager. This store is located only a 30 minute drive from Enfield and Moate and only a 20 minute drive from Kinnegad. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining exceptional food quality and presentation standards, and driving sales and profitability through effective stock management, waste control and cost optimisation. A strong understanding of profit and loss (P&L), sales performance and operational efficiency is essential. This role offers the opportunity to further develop leadership and commercial management skills, gain valuable exposure to back-office operations and play a key role in the overall success of the store.
