Job summary

Lever, Inc. is partnering with a client in Ireland to recruit a Network & Security Engineer specializing in pfSense/OPNsense.

The role is fully remote with occasional rotating duties in a distributed team, focusing on firewall operations, VPN connectivity, and network design across internal and customer environments. You will implement secure configurations, troubleshoot complex connectivity, and contribute to automation and documentation.

Qualifications

• At least five years of relevant professional experience.
• Extensive hands-on pfSense and OPNsense firewall experience.
• Strong IPSec VPN implementation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with BGP or other dynamic routing protocols.
• Solid IPv4/IPv6 networking knowledge.
• Experience with switches, preferably Dell, and Proxmox environments.
• Initial practical experience with network automation (Ansible, Python, Bash).
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills for complex networks.
• Independent, proactive work style with thorough documentation.
• Fluency in English and Spanish; German is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day network and firewall operations.
• Independently implement, configure, maintain, and document IPSec VPNs and firewall rules using pfSense and OPNsense.
• Design and document network environments for customer and internal projects.
• Perform advanced network troubleshooting for routing, switching, and VPN issues.
• Configure IPv4/IPv6 networking and switching technologies.
• Develop basic network automation using Ansible, Python, or Bash.
• Collaborate with SOC to analyze firewall logs and mitigate incidents.
• Identify opportunities to improve configurations, security, and efficiency.
• Train and onboard colleagues, share knowledge, and support team development.
• Participate in rotating NOC/SOC duty schedules, including nights and weekends.
