Job summary

Jones Engineering is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to design, deploy and operate a resilient corporate network across multiple locations in Ireland. You will focus on automation, security, and connectivity for a high-performance environment.

The role requires hands-on expertise with FortiGate, Cisco Meraki, VLANs, MPLS, VPNs, and cloud networking. Occasional international travel and on-site work in Pembroke, Dublin are expected.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in IP networking and enterprise network design.
• Hands-on FortiGate firewall management, NAT policies, and VPN configurations.
• Cisco Meraki dashboard administration and wireless/SD-WAN experience.
• Senior-level IP routing/switching, VLANs, MPLS, OSPF/BGP, QoS/queueing theory.
• Experience with VMware, Nutanix, and Azure networking configurations.
• Full, clean driving license for site visits across Ireland with rare international travel.
• Ability to troubleshoot enterprise networks and support 24x7x365 operations.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, implementation, and scaling of the corporate network for high availability.
• Manage FortiGate firewalls and security policies, site-to-site VPNs.
• Oversee Cisco Meraki for branch deployments and ZTP provisioning.
• Design and maintain VLANs, routing, and MPLS architectures.

Job Description

As a Senior Network Engineer, you will be part of a strategic team responsible for network design, building, deployment, and ongoing operations. This position focuses on process automation, secure connectivity, and maintaining a high-performance, fully resilient infrastructure across multiple core locations. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in enterprise networking, network security, and firewall management—specifically across FortiGate firewalls, Cisco Meraki portals, VLAN topologies, VPNs, and MPLS networks. You will combine hands‑on technical execution with high‑level design in a fast‑paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Network Architecture & Management: Lead the design, implementation, and scaling of the corporate production network to maintain high availability and resilience.
• Firewall & Security Administration: Manage FortiGate firewalls, security policies, and site-to-site/remote access VPN configurations.
• Cloud & Wireless Deployment: Oversee network administration and zero‑touch provisioning (ZTP) for branch rollouts via the Cisco Meraki portal.
• Routing & Infrastructure: Design, optimise, and maintain VLANs, routing protocols, and enterprise MPLS architectures.
• Virtualisation & Hybrid Cloud Support: Maintain and optimise network connectivity across virtualised environments (VMware vSphere/NSX, Nutanix AHV) and public cloud platforms (Azure Virtual Networks/ExpressRoute).
• Network Mapping & Documentation: Discover, audit, and document core switches, firewalls, routers, and access points across primary sites and remote branches.
• Maintenance & DR Testing: Schedule firmware/software upgrades during maintenance windows. Regularly validate secondary ISP failover routes, backup VPN paths, and firewall configurations.
• Site & International Support: Undertake site visits across Ireland as needed, with occasional rare travel to European and Middle Eastern locations.

Skills And Requirements

• 5+ years' experience in IP networking and enterprise network design through formal education or practical experience.
• Firewall & Security: Hands‑on expertise with FortiGate firewall management, NAT policies, HA configuration and network security protocols.
• Management Platforms: Strong proficiency with Cisco Meraki dashboard administration and wireless/SD‑WAN ecosystems.
• Protocols & Routing: Senior‑level competence in IP routing/switching, VLAN segmentation, MPLS, IPsec/SSL VPNs, OSPF, BGP, and QoS/queueing theory.
• Virtualisation & Cloud: Solid operational knowledge of VMware, Nutanix, and Azure networking configurations.
• Licensing & Travel: Full, clean driving license required for site visits across Ireland, with flexibility for rare international travel (Europe / Middle East).
• Operations: Proven ability to troubleshoot enterprise environments rapidly and support 24x7x365 network reliability.

Preferred Qualifications

• Cisco: CCNP Enterprise / CCNA
• Fortinet: Fortinet Certified Professional (FCP) / NSE 4 (desirable not essential)
• Security & Other: CompTIA Security+, Network+
