Job summary

First Choice Credit Union Ltd is seeking a Regulatory Officer to join our Assurance Department at Head Office in Castlebar. You will work with the Risk Management Officer and Compliance Officer to lead data protection and AML activities.

We value professional, detail‑oriented individuals with a Level 7 degree, 2+ years in compliance, and the ability to coordinate with staff. Hybrid working may be facilitated after probation.

Qualifications

• 2+ years' experience in compliance, risk, or accountancy practice.
• Level 7 degree or relevant equivalent.
• Willingness to study towards data protection qualification.
• QFA/LCOI qualification desirable or willingness to study.

Responsibilities

• Support implementation and monitoring of data protection policies.
• Act as a point of contact for data subject rights and GDPR compliance.
• Assist with AML plans, assessments, and reporting.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge in compliance, AML, data protection, and risk.
• Carry out staff training and data register maintenance.

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for a Regulatory Officer to join our Assurance Department. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow your career while contributing to the success and security of a valued community organisation.

The successful person will work in conjunction with the Risk Management Officer and Compliance Officer to lead the way on Data Protection to ensure the credit union is adhering fully to the requirements of legislation and regulatory directives.

As our Regulatory Officer, you will also play a key role in supporting the credit union’s Anti-Money Laundering (AML) function, while also contributing to broader Assurance activities.

Key Responsibilities

Data Protection

Support implementation and monitoring of data protection policies.

Act as a point of contact for data subject rights.

Monitor compliance with legislation and internal policies.

Assist with staff training and maintaining the Data Register.

Investigate personal data breaches and conduct audits.

Prepare regular and annual compliance reports.

Ensure member communication and signageisin compliance with GDPR and Data Protection legislation in relation to consent, data access, privacyrightsand CCTV, etc.

Carry out data security and protection training in relation to the directors and staff and provide all internal stakeholders with ongoing data protection support.

Report and coordinate all data protection incidents and breaches and liaise with staff and affected data subjects.

Anti-Money Laundering

Deputise for the MLRO when required.

Contribute to AML plans, assessments, and statements.

Assurance Support

Maintain up-to-date knowledge in compliance, AML, data protection, and risk.

Support cross-functional tasks and assigned duties.

Qualifications & Skills

Level 7 degree or relevant equivalent.

2+ years’ experience in compliance, risk, or accountancy practice.

Qualification in data protection desirable but not essential, candidate must be willing to study towards same

QFA/LCOI qualification desirable or willingness to study.

Position may suit recently qualified accountant

Strong understanding of credit union operations is an advantage.

Professional, energetic, self-motivated.

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.

Adaptable, solution-oriented, strong interpersonal skills.

This position is a full-time, 36 hours per week role, subject to a minimum probationary period of 6 months, and will be primarily based at our Head Office in Castlebar, Co. Mayo.

Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications & experience.
