Job summary

Sigmar Recruitment represents an established manufacturing company in Offaly seeking a practical Refrigeration Engineer to develop, test and optimise refrigeration and heat pump systems within a collaborative R&D environment. You will build and commission circuits, perform brazing, testing and data analysis to drive product improvements.

Qualifications

• Qualification in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Mechanical Engineering, relevant apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
• F‑Gas certification, or willingness to obtain recognition.
• Strong hands‑on experience with refrigeration or heat pump systems, including brazing, pressure testing, evacuation and refrigerant charging.
• Good understanding of refrigeration systems and the vapour compression cycle. Previous R&D experience is advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Build, modify and commission refrigeration circuits and prototype units.
• Carry out brazing, pipework fabrication, pressure testing, evacuation and refrigerant charging.
• Test and evaluate refrigeration and heat pump systems to validate performance and reliability.
• Analyse and optimise components such as compressors, heat exchangers, expansion devices and refrigerant charge.
• Work with natural and low-GWP refrigerants, including R290, in line with industry best practice.
• Troubleshoot refrigeration systems, perform fault finding and root-cause analysis to resolve issues.
• Review and interpret test data to identify improvement opportunities and enhance system efficiency.
• Support product testing, compliance and certification activities.
• Prepare clear technical reports and supporting documentation to communicate findings.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, production and service teams to support product development and delivery.

The Work
