Job summary

Matrix Recruitment Group is seeking an experienced Refrigeration Engineer to join the R&D team at a state-of-the-art facility in Ireland. You will be hands-on designing, building, and testing air source heat pump systems and refrigeration circuits, from concept through to performance optimisation and compliance testing.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, mentor lab techs, and contribute to the development of next-generation heating products while adhering to health and safety

Qualifications

• Relevant qualification or apprenticeship in refrigeration, air conditioning, or mechanical engineering.
• F-Gas certification (Category 1 or equivalent) or willingness to obtain.
• Hands-on experience in refrigeration or heat pump systems.
• Strong understanding of vapour compression theory.
• Analytical and reporting skills.
• Safety-first mindset.
• Able to work independently or in a team.
• Full clean driving licence (desirable).
• Experience with flammable refrigerants or R&D labs (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Design, assemble, and commission refrigeration circuits and prototypes.
• Carry out brazing, pipework, testing, and safe refrigerant handling.
• Plan and conduct detailed performance tests in line with relevant standards.
• Optimise system components and analyse data using technical instrumentation.
• Work safely with natural and low-GWP refrigerants.
• Investigate faults and support continuous product improvement.
• Prepare technical documentation and reports.
• Liaise with internal teams and external bodies for compliance and certification.
• Oversee equipment maintenance and ensure all health & safety standards are met.
• Mentor lab techs on refrigeration best practice as needed.
