Job summary

WSP seeks a Systems Safety Engineer for the MetroLink programme in Ireland. You will assess safety, ensure compliance with railway standards, and embed safety across design, construction, testing and commissioning.

You will collaborate with contractors, engineers, and stakeholders to deliver a fully assured metro system. You will lead hazard and risk management activities, review safety assurance evidence, and monitor regulatory requirements, contributing to a safe, compliant project lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering discipline with relevance to rail
  • Experience in a rail engineering environment is required
  • Proven capability in leading discipline engineers through design, construction and integration phases
  • Advanced knowledge of managing design-build contractors and developing specs to meet customer requirements
  • Proven ability to manage design resources and coordinate deliverables
  • Experience with project controls, programme management, and technical reporting
  • Expertise across design, development, production, integration, verification, validation and acceptance within a systems-engineering lifecycle

Responsibilities

  • Promote and enforce System Engineering requirements across the MetroLink team.
  • Review system, subsystem and interface designs to ensure safety requirements are addressed.
  • Support allocation and traceability of safety requirements through documentation.
  • Interface with multidisciplinary engineering teams to embed safety into design solutions.
  • Contribute to design reviews, technical workshops, and interface coordination meetings.
  • Attend meetings to ensure contractors follow agreed outcomes.
  • Proactively monitor progress, identify and resolve issues and implement solutions to maintain momentum.
  • Deliver updates on progress, status, identify risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Analyse and stay up-to-date with safety regulations and standards in Ireland and internationally.
  • Perform additional tasks as required or assigned.

Job Description

As a Systems Safety Engineer on the MetroLink programme, you'll play a key role in helping to deliver a safe, compliant, and fully assured metro system. Working closely with contractors, engineers, and stakeholders, you'll assess design and construction activities to ensure robust system safety processes are embedded throughout the project lifecycle. You will support the review of safety assurance evidence, monitor compliance with railway standards and regulatory requirements, contribute to hazard and risk management activities, and help ensure safety considerations are integrated into design, construction, testing and commissioning activities.   • Experience with project controls, programme management and technical reporting.
  • Expertise in systems‑engineering lifecycle activities: design, development, production, integration, verification, validation and acceptance.
