Job summary

The Company

The steelwork on these projects doesn't stop at the fabrication stage. From the first tender through to the final account, someone needs to keep a close eye on the numbers, spot where the opportunities are and make sure the commercial position stays under control.

This is an established structural steel specialist delivering large-scale projects across Ireland, with a workload that means this role will have exposure to projects from tender stage through to completion.

They are now looking for someone who can bridge the gap between estimating and quantity surveying and take ownership of the commercial side of their projects.

The Role

This is a hands-on position covering both estimating and commercial management.

• Prepare tenders, measurements and estimates, taking enquiries through to submission.
• Manage contract costs from the initial tender through to final account.
• Monitor valuations, cash flow, cost reports and subcontract liabilities throughout the project.
• Identify variations, disruption, commercial opportunities and areas of potential gain or loss.
• Negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotations to establish the best commercial outcome.
• Work closely with clients, architects, engineers, site teams and planners to keep the commercial position aligned with project delivery.

The Candidate

You will already have a background covering both quantity surveying and estimating, ideally within structural steel or a closely related construction environment.

You should have:

• An HNC/Degree in Quantity Surveying, Estimating or a related discipline.
• 5+ years' experience working for a Main Contractor.
• At least 3 years' QS experience.
• At least 3 years' estimating experience.
• At least 3 years' experience working on structural steel contracts.
• Experience working on commercial contracts.

Previous experience managing structural steel projects would be advantageous.

Most importantly, you will need to be comfortable working independently, managing competing priorities and dealing directly with the people involved in delivering the projects.
