Job summary

Brightwater Recruitment is seeking a Qualified Accountant for a well-established accounting practice in South Dublin. You will manage client portfolios, prepare annual accounts and financial statements, and mentor junior team members while delivering precise accounting support on a range of tax and compliance matters.

You will work closely with clients and internal teams, ensuring deadlines are met and information is accurate, with opportunities to advise on process improvements and outsourcing

Qualifications

  • ACA, ACCA or CPA qualified.
  • At least 2 years PQE in an Irish accountancy practice.
  • Strong knowledge of FRS 102 and VAT/RCT requirements.
  • Experience reviewing junior staff and mentoring.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of clients across sectors with day-to-day accounting queries.
  • Prepare and review annual accounts and financial statements.
  • Complete accounts files from start to finish within deadlines.
  • Prepare audit-exempt financial statements and supporting working papers.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly management accounts with month-end close.
  • Prepare VAT and other relevant tax returns within deadlines.
  • Assist with year-end reconciliations and documentation.
  • Review bookkeeping records and support clients’ reporting improvements.
  • Provide accounting support and guidance to clients and junior staff.

Job description

My client is a well-established and progressive accountancy practice based in South Dublin, with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality accounting, audit, tax and advisory services to a diverse portfolio of clients.

As the practice continues to grow, they are expanding their team and are seeking a Qualified Accountant to join the business. The firm works with a broad range of national and clients across a variety of sectors, providing an interesting and varied working environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced practice accountant who is looking to take greater ownership of client assignments, develop strong client relationships and play an active role in supporting and mentoring more junior members of the team.

About the Position

The role will involve working closely with clients and internal teams to ensure accounts and assignments are completed accurately and within agreed deadlines. You will have regular client interaction and will be expected to build strong working relationships, understand clients' businesses and provide practical accounting support and advice where required.

The position will also involve reviewing the work of junior staff, providing guidance and mentoring, and assisting with the development of the wider outsourcing team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of clients across a variety of sectors, acting as a key point of contact for day-to-day accounting and compliance queries.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, communicating regularly regarding accounts, reporting, deadlines and outstanding information.
  • Prepare and review annual accounts and financial statements for a range of clients.
  • Complete accounts files from start to finish, ensuring assignments are completed accurately, efficiently and within agreed deadlines.
  • Prepare audit-exempt financial statements and supporting working papers.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly management accounts, including month-end close, analysis and reporting.
  • Prepare and submit VAT, RCT and other relevant tax returns within statutory deadlines.
  • Assist with year-end processes, including reconciliations, schedules and preparation of supporting documentation.
  • Review bookkeeping and accounting records and ensure transactions are appropriately recorded and supported.
  • Provide accounting and technical support to clients, helping them resolve queries and improve their financial reporting processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and provide more efficient outsourcing solutions to clients.
  • Review work completed by junior accountants and provide constructive feedback to ensure a high standard of work.
  • Mentor and support junior members of the team, assisting with their technical development and providing guidance on client assignments.
  • Assist with the training and development of new and existing team members.
Experience & Requirements
  • ACA, ACCA or CPA qualified.
  • At least 2 years PQE working within an Irish accountancy practice environment.
  • Strong experience in accounts preparation and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of clients and working to multiple deadlines.
  • Good knowledge and practical understanding of FRS 102.
  • Strong understanding of VAT, RCT and general accounting compliance requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop effective relationships with clients.
  • Confident communicating with clients and explaining accounting information clearly.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a wider team.
  • Experience reviewing the work of junior staff and/or mentoring team members would be advantageous.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Commitment to professional development and delivering a high standard of service to clients.
