Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer to deliver high‑quality transmission protection and control designs. You’ll work within a multidisciplinary team on projects across the UK & Ireland energy sector, contributing to Net Zero goals.

The role offers collaboration with suppliers and project teams, professional development opportunities, and access to cutting‑edge tools and methodologies. A hybrid work model is available across offices.

Qualifications

Minimum HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering.
Proven experience designing protection and control schemes.
Knowledge of Electrical Networks and standards.
Ability to interpret technical design documentation.
Experience with substation control equipment from major suppliers.
Familiarity with IEC 61850 and IEC 60870 protocols.
Chartered status or progressing towards chartership is preferred.

Responsibilities

Design protection and control systems for electrical power transmission and distribution.
Create detailed engineering drawings and design documentation with AutoCAD and ETAP.
Perform calculations to ensure reliability and performance of control systems.
Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety and environmental guidelines.
Conduct site surveys and collaborate with project teams to integrate design requirements.
Review design modifications and provide technical support during installation and commissioning.
Stay updated on latest protection and control technologies and practices.
