Job summary

ESB is recruiting a Route Surveyor to support high-voltage overhead line and underground cable projects up to 400 kV in Ireland. Based in Dublin with flexible hybrid work, you’ll collaborate with design teams, ESB partners and contractors to deliver projects on time and to high standards.

The role requires a level 7/8 Civil Engineering or Geo-Spatial degree and a minimum of 3 years’ experience, with ArcGIS experience and strong stakeholders management. Travel nationwide is required.

Qualifications

• Level 7/8 Civil Engineering or Geo-Spatial degree or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in civil/linear infrastructure.
• Good safety awareness and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop underground cable routes from feasibility to detail designs within a large team.
• Stakeholder management with landowners, authorities and statutory bodies.
• Provide technical support on quantities, calculations and design reviews.
• Participate in constructability reviews and risk assessments for designs.
• Contribute to design risk assessments for all deliverables.
• Provide input to project teams and ensure quality and standards compliance.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to advance projects through lifecycle stages.

Join our dedicated group where we are responsible for the design delivery, and support of high-voltage overhead line and underground cable projects—up to 400 kV—for ESB Networks, EirGrid, and other key clients. Our work directly strengthens Ireland’s electricity infrastructure and directly supports ESB’s Net Zero 2040 strategy, enabling a more resilient and sustainable energy future.

The Route Surveyor will play a key role in the delivery of engineering projects for ESB. This role involves close collaboration with design teams, ESB partners, and Contractors to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop underground cable routes from feasibility to detail designs as part of a large team of professionals
• Stakeholder management through consultation, engagement and negotiation with private landowners, public authorities and statutory stakeholders
• Provide technical support on material quantities, calculations and design reviews
• Participate in constructability reviews, due diligence of internal and external designs, as well as input or production of risk assessments.
• Contribute to design risk assessments for all engineering deliverables
• Provide technical input to project teams and collaborate with colleagues to ensure quality and compliance with standards
• Co-ordinate with internal and external stakeholders to progress projects through all lifecycle stages and governance gates – from concept stage through to construction

Experience and Qualifications

• Level 7 / 8 Civil Engineering or Geo-Spatial degree or equivalent
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
• Proven ability to contribute to the management of significant projects or key aspects of projects
• Good safety awareness and communication skills
• Valid driver’s license for ROI, access to a car, and flexibility to travel nationwide
• Experience in software such ArcGIS or similar
• Experience in utility / linear infrastructure projects
• Good commercial and project management skills
• Experience in performing the role of designer on projects

Location

This position will be base d in ESB E&MP’s Offices in Dublin o r Eastgate Cork .
