Job Details

Job Title: Production Operator
Department: Production
Division: Operations
Reports To: Operations and Warehouse Manager

Job Purpose

The Production Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, cleaning and handover of production processes, equipment and designated areas, ensuring products are manufactured in accordance with required quality specifications, GMP, HSEQ and operational standards and procedures.

The Production Operator is also responsible for stock and stock-related activities within their designated area.

Key Responsibilities

Production Operations

  • Carry out all production activities in accordance with applicable procedures and operational requirements.
  • Safely operate, clean and maintain production equipment and designated work areas.
  • Ensure equipment is appropriately verified and calibrated prior to use.
  • Monitor production processes and ensure activities are completed to the required quality standards.
  • Sample intermediate and finished products and carry out required in-process checks.
  • Complete all required production documentation accurately, including batch records and production logs.
  • Identify and report equipment, process or production issues and, where appropriate, raise notifications with the Maintenance team.
  • Carry out simple maintenance activities within the scope of the role.
  • Maintain responsibility for stock and stock-related activities within the designated production area.
  • Propose changes and improvements that may enhance or optimise area performance.
  • Suggest and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with the review and development of relevant documentation, including process sheets and procedures.

Quality, GMP & Food Safety

  • Follow all applicable policies, procedures and work instructions relevant to the role.
  • Comply with GMP and HSEQ best practices at all times.
  • Adhere to applicable Quality and Food Safety Management System requirements.
  • Comply with HACCP and ISO 9001:2015 Food Safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure production activities are carried out in accordance with defined quality and food safety standards.
  • Cooperate fully with internal and external audits.
  • Support continual improvement and participate in relevant improvement initiatives.

Health, Safety, Security & Housekeeping

  • Comply with all site health and safety requirements and procedures.
  • Participate in health and safety initiatives and complete required training.
  • Use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly.
  • Maintain a clean, neat and orderly working environment.
  • Follow established housekeeping and 5S requirements.
  • Maintain designated production and storage areas to the required standard.
  • Support the security of production and warehouse areas.
  • Carry out health and safety duties and responsibilities as required.

Training & Team Support

  • Participate in ongoing training relating to production, GMP, HSEQ and other relevant areas.
  • Support the training and development of new Production Operators.
  • Assist with the integration of team members transferring from other areas.
  • Complete self-evaluations and participate in team member evaluations where required.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and other departments to ensure efficient production operations.
Continuous Improvement

The Production Operator is expected to contribute positively to the ongoing improvement of production activities by:

  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, quality and safety.
  • Making recommendations for improvements within their area of responsibility.
  • Supporting the implementation of agreed improvement initiatives.Reporting problems and potential areas for improvement promptly.
  • Contributing to a culture of quality, safety, efficiency and continuous improvement.
General Responsibilities
  • Follow all applicable policies, procedures and instructions required for the successful execution of the role.
  • Work in accordance with relevant quality, food safety, health and safety and operational standards.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records relating to production activities.
  • Cooperate with colleagues, management, auditors and other relevant personnel.
  • Undertake any other duties relevant to the role as reasonably required.
  • Maintain a professional and positive approach to all aspects of the position.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills

The role requires the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to safely and effectively carry out production activities within a regulated manufacturing environment.

Experience or knowledge in the following areas would be beneficial:

  • Production or manufacturing operations.
  • GMP and food safety requirements.
  • HACCP principles.
  • ISO 9001:2015 requirements.
  • HSEQ procedures and practices.
  • Production documentation and record keeping.
  • Equipment operation and basic maintenance.
  • Stock management within a production environment.
Working Environment

The Production Operator will work within a structured manufacturing environment and must be capable of following established procedures, maintaining high standards of housekeeping and safety, and working effectively as part of a production team.

The role requires a strong commitment to quality, food safety, health and safety, operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
