Job summary

Toasttab in Dublin is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead our data platform initiatives. You will work hands-on with Spark, Iceberg, and streaming infrastructure, guiding architectural decisions that scale for our 170,000+ restaurant customers and analytics products.

You will mentor teams, shape API surfaces for developer usability, and collaborate with product and leadership to drive a high-velocity platform transformation.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software engineering with data platform or distributed systems experience.
• Deep expertise in Apache Spark and Apache Iceberg, not just operational familiarity.
• Strong background in streaming infrastructure (Kafka, Pulsar, or similar) and cloud-native data platforms on AWS.
• Experience designing internal platforms and developer-facing abstractions.

Responsibilities

• Work hands-on with Spark, Iceberg, and streaming infra at scale.
• Contribute to technical strategy for data platform initiatives with senior engineers and leads.
• Design and evolve platform APIs for self-service use by engineers across the company.
• Influence adjacent teams and align stakeholders on architectural decisions.
• Mentor engineers and raise engineering practices across the organisation.
• Leverage AI tooling to empower the team and speed delivery.
