Job summary

Genesys seeks a Principal Engineer to design and evolve backend platforms powering Agentic AI workloads. You’ll own the technical strategy for core services, data and runtime foundations, and lead multiple teams to deliver secure, low-latency systems at global scale.

The role offers hybrid work from Galway or remote within Ireland, with in-person collaboration 2–3 times monthly. You’ll mentor staff engineers and drive security, reliability and governance in enterprise AI systems.

Qualifications

• 8+ years building and operating backend/platform software with leadership impact.
• Strong Java and/or Python expertise; distributed-systems fundamentals.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and APIs; scalable, multi-tenant design.
• Proven AWS experience and modern DevOps/SRE practices; CI/CD and IaC.
• Excellent communicator able to align teams and business outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Own the multi-year backend strategy and north-star architectures for APIs and data.
• Standardise service templates, patterns, testing and documentation across teams.
• Design for scale, reliability, and cost; drive SLOs/SLA, capacity planning and monitoring.
• Shape data ingestion, governance, lineage, privacy-by-design, and cataloguing.
• Lead CI/CD, IaC, progressive delivery, observability, and on-call practices.
• Partner with AI specialists and support tool integration and eval loops.
• Mentor Staff Engineers and tech leads; drive architecture decisions and code quality.
