Job summary

Electricity Supply Board (ESB) is seeking a Plant Operator at Aghada Generating Station to join the Operations function. The role requires ensuring safe, efficient plant operation, supervising safety, and supporting the shift operations team in daily tasks.

The ideal candidate will have a craft qualification in instrumentation, electrical, or mechanical fields, plus experience in heavy process environments. Shift work, training, and development opportunities are provided.

Qualifications

• Experience in power station operations or a similar heavy process industry.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• High level of enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
• A good working knowledge of health and safety and environmental legislation and standards.
• Environmental, safety and chemistry compliance experience.
• Contractor support / supervision.
• Awareness of Safe System of Work.
• Experience using Maintenance/Operations Management Systems.

Responsibilities

• Ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all plant on site.
• Ensuring the safety of all personnel.
• Carrying out day-to-day activities such as monitoring, assessing, testing, and operating plant equipment.
• Operation of the power plant in line with strict safety, environmental, commercial, and chemical requirements.
• Training and developing to achieve and maintain competency.
• Compliance with safety and environmental obligations.
• Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Supporting the shift operations team in day-to-day activities.
• Maintaining a shift operations record and submitting reports as required by the Operations Manager.
• Attending and contributing to scheduled meetings.
• Involvement in initial front-line maintenance/troubleshooting.
• Outage and project management as required.
• Participation on business improvement projects, as required.
• Train and develop themselves and others as required.
• Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.

Education

Craft qualification or equivalent in Instrumentation, Electrical or Mechanical field
