Job description

A residential disability service based in Galway is currently seeking a Person in Charge (PIC).

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced social care professional to step into a leadership role supporting adults with intellectual disabilities and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, person-centred services.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall management of the service, leading a dedicated team while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and best practice standards.

Key Responsibilities of the Person in charge
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the residential service
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, person-centred care and support
  • Promote independence, choice, dignity, and community inclusion for service users
  • Lead, support, and supervise staff members to achieve positive outcomes
  • Ensure compliance with HIQA regulations, national standards, and organisational policies
  • Manage staffing, rostering, budgets, and resources effectively
  • Oversee safeguarding, risk management, incident reporting, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Build positive relationships with service users, families, multidisciplinary teams, and external stakeholders
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development
Requirements for the Person in Charge
  • Relevant Level 7 or Level 8 qualification in Social Care, Applied Social Studies, Nursing, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years’ management or leadership experience within disability, residential, or social care services
  • Strong knowledge of HIQA regulations and standards
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate teams
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
  • Full driver’s licence and access to a vehicle
Desirable Experience
  • Experience supporting adults with intellectual disabilities and/or autism
  • Previous experience in a Person in Charge or senior management role
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, positive behaviour support, and person-centred planning
