Job description

Payroll & Pensions Technician

Galway | Hybrid | 2-year Contract

You know your way around payroll. But would you like a little more variety in your working day?

Not every payroll role needs to be about processing the same reports, running the same checks and moving on to the next pay cycle.

This one offers something a little different.

FRS Recruitment is working with an established organisation in Galway to find an experienced Payroll & Pensions Technician who enjoys the detail of payroll but would welcome the opportunity to broaden their experience.

You'll join a small, experienced team, working directly with the Payroll Manager and another Payroll Technician. Together, you'll support payroll for several hundred employees, while also getting involved in pensions, expenses, reporting and compliance.

A few reasons this role is worth considering:
  • Hybrid working: Three days in the Kilcolgan office, two from home.
  • A small team: Work directly with an experienced Payroll Manager and one other Payroll Technician.
  • More than payroll: Gain hands‑on exposure to pensions administration, expenses and reporting.
  • A varied payroll: Work across weekly and monthly payroll cycles.
  • A broader skill set: Build on your existing payroll knowledge through pensions, compliance and process improvements.

What will you actually be doing?

Your day‑to‑day work will include:

  • Supporting accurate weekly and monthly payroll processing.
  • Managing payroll records, adjustments, deductions and reconciliations.
  • Working on pensions administration, including retirements, pension payments and employee queries.
  • Liaising with pension providers and internal stakeholders.
  • Processing and reviewing employee travel and expense claims.
  • Preparing payroll reports, journals and audit documentation.
  • Ensuring payroll activities comply with Irish Revenue and statutory requirements.
  • Helping to improve payroll processes and systems.
Who would suit this role?

We're looking for someone who already understands the fundamentals of Irish payroll and is comfortable taking responsibility for accurate, timely processing.

Ideally, you'll bring:
  • At least two years' payroll experience, preferably within a medium to large organisation.
  • An IPASS qualification or equivalent relevant payroll qualification.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish payroll legislation, PAYE Modernisation (PMOD), statutory deductions and Revenue requirements.
  • Familiarity with payroll systems, Microsoft Excel and reconciliations.
  • Good organisational skills, accuracy and the ability to manage payroll deadlines.
  • A professional, approachable manner when dealing with employee queries.
And pensions experience?

It's an advantage, but don't rule yourself out if your background is primarily in payroll.

We're particularly interested in speaking with payroll professionals who have a strong technical foundation and would like to develop their pensions knowledge.
