Our client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to join its Energy and Industry team in Cork, Ireland
The successful candidate will provide technical expertise during both the tender-development and project-delivery phases. The role will initially focus on tender-stage technical input before transitioning into project execution, including the delivery, commissioning, turnover and handover of mechanical systems. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex projects across the energy, data centre, pharmaceutical, life sciences and industrial sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate daily project activities to ensure the safe, efficient and successful delivery of all works.
- Manage site teams, supervisors, engineers, contractors and subcontractors to achieve agreed project objectives.
- Monitor project progress against programme milestones and implement corrective actions where required.
- Chair project meetings and provide regular progress updates to clients, stakeholders and senior management.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, quality and contractual requirements.
- Manage labour, plant, materials and equipment to support productivity and project delivery.
- Review and approve work packs, method statements, risk assessments and other project documentation.
- Manage project budgets, cost tracking, forecasting and change-control processes.
- Identify, assess and mitigate project risks, issues and potential delays.
- Prepare work-package pricing documentation and agree commercial terms with clients before work commences.
- Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, turnover and handover activities.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, contractors and other project stakeholders.
- Ensure all project records, reports and supporting documentation are accurate and completed on time.
- Drive continuous-improvement initiatives and promote best practices throughout the project team.
- Support project close-out, including final documentation, lessons-learned reviews and handover to operations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of eight years' relevant experience in mechanical engineering or project management.
- Experience within one or more of the following sectors is preferred: energy, life sciences, data centres or energy centres, pharmaceuticals, industrial facilities or gas.
- Proven experience working in regulated or high-compliance environments.
- Strong understanding of QA/QC requirements and quality-management systems.
- Demonstrable experience managing mechanical commissioning, project turnover and handover activities.
- Experience completing turnover documentation and coordinating the transition of completed systems to operations.
- Proven track record of delivering multidisciplinary projects safely, on schedule, within budget and to the required quality standards.
- Strong experience in project planning, scheduling, resource allocation, cost control, risk management and change management.
- Experience leading and coordinating multidisciplinary teams, contractors and subcontractors within live operational environments.
- Excellent stakeholder-management and communication skills, including experience engaging with clients, operational teams and senior management.
- Strong commercial and contractual awareness, including budget management, forecasting, cost reporting and performance monitoring.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced project environment.
