Job summary

Red The Consultancy in Cork seeks a Marine Operations Manager to oversee safe, efficient and compliant marine operations. You will coordinate vessel activities, crews, ports and procurement, while ensuring regulatory compliance and high service standards.

The role requires leadership, strong safety culture and the ability to travel internationally for vessel visits. You will work with senior management to optimize performance and costs across marine operations.

Qualifications

  • Must have significant shore-based experience in marine operations or similar senior maritime role.
  • Hold a relevant maritime qualification or professional certification.
  • Strong knowledge of marine safety, operational procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working with vessel crews, ports, contractors and authorities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people-management experience.
  • Strong commercial awareness and financial management skills.
  • Excellent communication, planning and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Commitment to health, safety, environmental protection and operational excellence.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and marine/operations systems.
  • Willingness to travel internationally for vessel visits.
  • Full and unrestricted right to live and work in Republic of Ireland.
  • Full driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage day-to-day marine operations, ensuring safe, efficient and reliable service delivery.
  • Oversee vessel operations, crew coordination, port activities, logistics and related services.
  • Ensure compliance with Irish, UK, EU and international maritime legislation and client requirements.
  • Develop and implement operational procedures, policies and performance standards.
  • Manage crew requirements, maintenance activities and operational resources.
  • Advise vessels on operational, crew and cargo queries.
  • Collaborate with vessel crews, port authorities, contractors and customers.
  • Monitor performance, costs, productivity and service levels for improvements.
  • Maintain robust health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
  • Lead investigations and ensure corrective actions for incidents and near-misses.
  • Support vessel inspections, audits, surveys and regulatory inspections.
  • Develop operational personnel and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Coordinate with Technical Manager to keep vessels operationally ready.
  • Ensure crew levels, qualifications and visas comply with requirements.
  • Assist budgeting, forecasting, procurement and cost control for operations.
  • Maintain emergency response and contingency plans.
  • Provide regular reports and performance updates to senior management.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and ongoing development of marine operations.
  • Assist with ad-hoc projects requested by Senior Management.

Our client, based in Cork, are recruiting for a Marine Operations Manager. As a Marine Operations Manager you will be responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of marine operations while ensuring the highest standards of operational performance, customer service, and regulatory compliance.

THE SUCCESFUL APPLICANT
Essential
  • Significant shore-based experience in a marine operations, vessel operations, fleet management, or similar senior maritime role.
  • A relevant maritime qualification or professional certification.
  • Strong knowledge of marine safety, operational procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working with vessel crews, ports, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Demonstrable leadership and people-management experience.
  • Strong commercial awareness and financial management skills.
  • Excellent communication, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
  • The ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • A strong commitment to health, safety, environmental protection, and operational excellence.

Desirable
  • Previous sea going experience as Master/Captain.
  • ISM / ISPS / MLC compliance with DPA / CSO qualifications.
  • ISO 9001 / 14001 experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Lead and manage day-to-day marine operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable service delivery.
  • Oversee vessel operations, crew coordination, port activities, logistics, and associated marine services.
  • Ensure all operations comply with applicable Irish, UK, EU, and international maritime legislation, industry standards and specific client requirements.
  • Develop and implement operational procedures, policies, and performance standards.
  • Manage and coordinate crew requirements, maintenance activities, and operational resources.
  • Advise / assist vessels with operational, crew and cargo queries.
  • Work closely with vessel crews, port authorities, contractors, customers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Monitor operational performance, costs, productivity, and service levels, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure robust health, safety, environmental, and quality standards are maintained across all marine activities.
  • Lead incident, near-miss, and operational investigations and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
  • Support / assist with vessel inspections, audits, surveys, and regulatory inspections.
  • Manage and develop operational personnel, promoting a strong safety culture and professional working environment.
  • Partner closely with the Technical Manager to ensure vessels remain operationally ready.
  • Ensure all International, National and Client requirements are complied with in relation to crew levels, qualifications and visas, etc.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, procurement, and cost control relating to marine operations.
  • Maintain effective emergency response and contingency plans.
  • Provide regular operational reports and performance updates to senior management.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and the continued development of the company's marine operations.
  • Assist with Ad-hoc projects as requested by Senior Management.
