Job summary

Matrix Recruitment Group is seeking a Manufacturing Automation Engineer in Co. Laois to drive automation improvements and equipment developments across manufacturing operations.

You will support daily production, lead NPI/continuous improvement projects and contribute to Lean initiatives, standard work and document control. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Automation or Mechanical Engineering, strong CAD/3D skills, experience with PLCs, WINDCHILL and SAP, and solid data analysis

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience with automation design, PLC programming and electrical testing procedures.
• Knowledge of ISO, RoHS, REACH and manufacturing standards.
• Strong analytical and data-handling skills; experience with ERP systems and Lean methods.

Responsibilities

• Support and improve daily manufacturing operations to hit site KPIs and FPY.
• Lead process and equipment development for new product introduction and improvements.
• Drive Lean and Operational Excellence initiatives including SMED and standard work.
• Develop and maintain SOPs, process standards and training materials.
• Support ERP and manufacturing systems, analyse KPI data and ensure QHSE compliance.

Manufacturing Automation Engineer - Co. Laois | Permanent

What you need to know

Our client is a highly respected engineering and manufacturing company operating as part of a successful global organisation. With a strong reputation for quality and technical excellence, the organisation is now seeking to recruit a Manufacturing Automation Engineer to take a leading role in the performance and development of the manufacturing operation.

The successful candidate will be a key member of the engineering team reporting to the Engineering Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support and improve daily manufacturing operations, delivering projects and process improvements to achieve site KPIs, increase efficiency and improve First Pass Yield (FPY).
• Lead process and equipment development for new product introduction and existing product improvements, including automation upgrades, commissioning, validation, first-article testing and production readiness.
• Drive Lean and Operational Excellence initiatives, including SMED, changeovers, layered audits, standard work and continuous improvement activities.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including SOPs, process standards, training materials, technical documents and process measurement tools.
• Support ERP and manufacturing systems, analyse production and KPI data, and ensure compliance with Quality, Health & Safety, Environmental, GMP and site management systems.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Automation, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong proficiency in CAD and 3D solid modelling, with the ability to interpret engineering drawings and schematics. Knowledge of Windchill and 3D printing would be advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of automation design, PLC programming, electronic test equipment and testing procedures.
• Experience with APQP, Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) and structured problem-solving, with knowledge of manufacturing standards including ISO, RoHS and REACH.
• Strong analytical and data-handling skills, including statistical tools such as Pareto analysis and distribution curves. Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Lean methodologies and Green Belt-level knowledge would be advantageous.
