About the Role
This is a full-time, permanent position based in County Louth, Ireland, joining a highly experienced engineering team responsible for the development, commissioning, validation, and ongoing support of advanced automation and control systems. Candidates should be located within a reasonable commuting distance of County Louth or be willing to relocate. The role offers a broad range of responsibilities including automation software development, project delivery, customer engagement, commissioning activities, and technical leadership. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering innovative automation solutions across a variety of industries.
Responsibilities
- Lead the specification, development, installation, and validation of automation projects, ensuring delivery within budget and project requirements.
- Develop automation software for bespoke machinery and manufacturing systems.
- Program, test, simulate, and commission PLC, HMI, and SCADA control systems.
- Engage directly with customers to understand and define technical requirements.
- Evaluate existing technologies, machinery, and manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Design and implement best-in-class automation and control solutions.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to engineering and operations teams.
- Produce detailed technical documentation and manage project change control processes.
- Manage multiple projects and priorities while working independently and meeting deadlines.
- Take ownership of projects from concept through to commissioning and final handover.
- Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, contributing to their professional development.
- Apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to complex automation challenges.
- Support the maintenance and validation of automation systems in accordance with industry standards and procedures.
Qualifications
- A third-level qualification in Automation, Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
Required Skills
- Significant industry experience within automation, controls, manufacturing, or process engineering environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with technologies such as Rockwell Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View, Ignition, Siemens TIA Portal/Step7, OSI PI Historian, and VBA.
- A solid understanding of automation principles, control systems, and engineering best practices.
- Knowledge of 21 CFR Part 11 and GAMP within regulated industries would be advantageous.
- Cisco Networking, VMware, or equivalent certifications would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of robotics systems and machinery safety standards would be advantageous.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent organisational and project management capabilities.
- Proven troubleshooting, fault-finding, and analytical problem-solving abilities.
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- A proactive, professional, and solutions-focused approach.
