Job summary

Frey Consulting Group seeks a Maintenance Technician for a leading food manufacturing site in Kildare. You will maintain highly automated production equipment, perform planned and reactive maintenance, and support Lean initiatives to keep downtime low.

The role requires PLC exposure, electrical/mechanical fault-finding, and a GMP-conscious mindset, with strong teamwork and independent working capability.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Electrician, Mechanical Fitter or engineering qualification.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in industrial maintenance.
  • Experience with PLC-controlled machinery and automated production equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of GMP, quality and health & safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide maintenance support across the manufacturing facility.
  • Perform planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs.
  • Carry out electrical installations, commissioning and modifications.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical and electro-mechanical faults.
  • Work from electrical schematics and technical documentation.
  • Support new equipment installations and upgrades.
  • Monitor plant utilities including compressed air and refrigeration.
  • Manage contractors and permit-to-work procedures.
  • Complete maintenance work orders in GMP-compliant manner.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Support health & safety activities including risk assessments.
  • Maximise equipment uptime and minimise downtime.

THE COMPANY:

Our client is a leading food manufacturing business operating a highly automated production facility in Kildare. Supplying products throughout Ireland and internationally, they continue to invest heavily in production capabilities, continuous improvement initiatives and engineering excellence.

Due to ongoing growth, they are seeking a Maintenance Technician to join their engineering team.

THE ROLE:

The successful Maintenance Technician will provide maintenance support across both production and site facilities, ensuring machinery, utilities and plant equipment operate efficiently while minimising downtime.

Working within a modern food production environment, you will be responsible for carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance activities while supporting continuous improvement projects across the site.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Providing maintenance support across the manufacturing facility
  • Performing planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown repairs
  • Carrying out electrical installations, commissioning and modifications to plant equipment
  • Diagnosing and repairing electrical, mechanical and electro-mechanical faults
  • Working from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical documentation
  • Supporting new equipment installations and machinery upgrades
  • Monitoring and maintaining plant utilities including compressed air and refrigeration systems
  • Managing contractors and supporting permit-to-work procedures
  • Completing maintenance work orders in a timely and GMP-compliant manner
  • Participating in continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing initiatives
  • Supporting health & safety activities including machine risk assessments
  • Maximising equipment uptime and reducing production downtime
THE PERSON:

We are looking to speak with candidates who have experience within food production, FMCG, pharmaceutical, manufacturing or industrial maintenance environments.

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Qualified Electrician, Mechanical Fitter or relevant Engineering qualification
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in an industrial maintenance environment
  • Strong planned and reactive maintenance experience
  • Excellent electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills
  • Experience working on PLC-controlled machinery and automated production equipment
  • Exposure to electrical control systems, instrumentation and industrial automation
  • Experience within FMCG or food manufacturing would be highly advantageous
  • Strong understanding of GMP, quality and health & safety standards
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

LOCATION:

Ideally based in Kildare, but open to candidates located in Dublin, Laois, Offaly, Meath, Carlow and surrounding areas.
