Job summary

Vickerstock, in partnership with a leading food manufacturing organisation, is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join their team in Shillelagh. You will maintain and improve plant equipment in a high-volume automated environment, taking a hands-on approach.

The role offers €25.16 per hour, a permanent position with a 4-week rotating shift pattern covering early, evening and day shifts, and opportunities for professional development within a supportive engineering team and modern facilities.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, National Craft Certificate or equivalent engineering qualification.
  • 2+ years' post-apprenticeship experience in a high-volume, automated manufacturing environment.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic abilities.
  • Experience carrying out reactive and planned preventative maintenance.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proactive approach to maintenance and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and carry out reactive maintenance to minimise production downtime.
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to maximise equipment reliability and performance.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults and implement effective solutions.
  • Maintain and improve plant equipment and auxiliary services across the manufacturing site.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment efficiency, reliability and overall performance.
  • Complete maintenance work orders efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Record completed maintenance activities accurately using the site's maintenance management system.
  • Manage maintenance-related inventory and ensure relevant records are kept up to date.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the Engineering and Production functions.
  • Work closely with Production teams to maintain the smooth operation of production lines.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are completed in line with company procedures.
  • Maintain full compliance with Health & Safety and Food Safety standards.
  • Take a proactive approach to fault finding, problem solving and equipment reliability.
  • Support the wider Engineering team in maintaining high standards of plant availability and production performance.

What you will need to succeed:
  • NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, National Craft Certificate or equivalent engineering qualification
  • Relevant multi-skilled engineering experience and/or qualification
  • Minimum 2 years' post-apprenticeship experience within a high-volume, automated manufacturing environment
  • Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic abilities
  • Experience carrying out reactive and planned preventative maintenance
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Proactive approach to maintenance and continuous improvement
  • Ability to work effectively within a fast‑paced production environment
