Job summary

The Quays Bar and Restaurant in Galway City Centre is seeking a skilled Sous Chef to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis. You will support the Head Chef in daily operations, ensuring top quality, presentation, and hygiene, and lead in the Head Chef’s absence.

You will train junior staff, contribute to menu development, and uphold strict food safety standards. The role requires strong leadership, creativity, and the ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure in a busy kitchen.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years experience as a Sous Chef or Senior CDP in a busy kitchen.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Excellent knowledge of food safety and HACCP procedures.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
• Creativity and a passion for quality food.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of dishes.
• Oversee kitchen operations during the absence of the Head Chef.
• Maintain high standards of food hygiene and health & safety.
• Train, mentor, and support junior kitchen staff.
• Ensure consistency and quality in every dish served.
• Monitor stock levels and assist in ordering ingredients as required.
• Contribute to menu planning, specials, and cost control.
• Ensure all kitchen equipment is maintained and reported if faulty.
