Job summary

Ports North is seeking a Java Engineering Lead to head a large-scale financial services tech team in Dublin. You will design and deliver modern Java platforms, lead engineering excellence, and remain hands-on with architecture and development.

The role focuses on microservices, event-driven architectures, and database optimization across DB2 and Cassandra, while mentoring teams and communicating strategy to stakeholders.

We have partnered with our client in their search for a Java Engineering Lead to join a large-scale financial Services technology team. This is an opportunity to lead the design and delivery of modern Java-based platforms, driving engineering excellence while remaining hands-on with architecture and development.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development and deployment of microservices-based applications.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to engineering teams, promoting software engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to define requirements and deliver scalable, high-quality solutions.
• Drive the adoption of event-driven architectures using technologies such as Kafka and MQ.
• Oversee database design and optimisation across technologies including DB2 and Cassandra.
• Ensure high standards of code quality, performance, resilience and security.
• Communicate technical strategy, risks and delivery updates to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Skills Required

• Strong Java development background with extensive Spring Boot experience.
• Proven expertise designing and delivering microservices architectures.
• Experience with eventing and messaging technologies including Kafka and MQ.
• Strong understanding of DB2, Cassandra and associated database access patterns.
• Experience leading engineering teams within complex enterprise environments.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to influence senior leadership and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.

Work Experience

• Significant experience in software engineering, with recent experience leading development teams in large enterprise environments.
• Experience delivering enterprise-scale Java solutions within highly regulated or complex organisations preferred.

Location - Dublin, Ireland (Hybrid - 3 days onsite per week)

Engagement - Daily Rate Contract

Duration - 12-month (initial)
