Job summary

Insight International (UK) Ltd in Dublin is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help build scalable, cloud-native analytics and data-driven solutions for a leading payments technology client. You will define architecture, lead design, and deliver production-quality software across the full lifecycle.

You will work with Java/Spring Boot, Databricks, Spark, and cloud platforms in a hybrid environment, mentoring others and driving engineering standards.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience delivering scalable, high-performance software in an agile environment.
• Experience designing and building distributed systems, microservices, RESTful APIs, and cloud-native apps.
• Strong programming with Java/Spring Boot, TypeScript/React, SQL and related technologies.
• Experience with Databricks, Spark, PySpark for data pipelines and analytics.
• Experience building cloud-native apps on AWS and/or Azure; CI/CD, containers, Kubernetes, observability, automated testing, production support.
• Proven ability to lead design discussions and influence implementation.
• Ability to translate product needs into scalable, secure solutions.
• Strong collaboration and communication across cross-functional teams.
• Bachelor's degree in CS/SE or related field; advanced degree a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead team-level system design, including high-level and detailed design, API contracts, and nonfunctional requirements like scalability and security.

• Develop and optimise data-intensive applications using Databricks, Spark, and related tech to deliver data at scale.

Job description

We are seeking a technically strong Senior Software Engineer to support a client engagement with a leading global payments technology company. The client's team builds industry-leading software that empowers business users around the world to make data-driven decisions through advanced analytics and experimentation, and is reimagining how it delivers scalable, cloud-native solutions. This role is based in Dublin, Ireland, with a hybrid working arrangement.

In this role, you will help define and evolve system architecture and non-functional requirements, including scalability, performance, security, and reliability. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive complex technical solutions, lead team-level design, and deliver scalable services, APIs, and analytics-driven capabilities using technologies such as Java, Databricks, cloud platforms, and modern data technologies. The team is small, agile, and empowered to choose the processes that work best for its goals, with every engineer contributing across the full development lifecycle, from ideation and design through implementation and testing.

What you'll do

• Lead team-level system design, including high-level design, detailed design, API contracts, data flows, service interactions, integration patterns, and nonfunctional requirements such as scalability, reliability, performance, security, and operability
• Partner with lead engineers and architects to align team-level implementations with broader platform architecture, modernisation goals, engineering standards, and long-term maintainability
• Develop and optimise data-intensive applications and analytics capabilities using Databricks, Spark, and related technologies to process and deliver data at scale
• Serve as a hands-on technical contributor, designing, coding, testing, debugging, and delivering production-quality software across the full engineering lifecycle
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across services, APIs, data processing workloads, and user experiences
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through technical guidance, pairing, code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing
• Contribute to a collaborative engineering culture by modelling ownership, clear communication, continuous learning, pragmatic decision-making, and high standards for software quality
• Improve engineering quality through code reviews, design reviews, automated testing, secure coding practices, observability, performance tuning, CI/CD practices, and production readiness
• Troubleshoot complex issues across application, service, API, data, and cloud layers, driving root cause analysis and implementing durable solutions that improve platform reliability and supportability

Requirements

What you bring

• 6+ years of software engineering experience delivering scalable, high-performance, and reliable software in an agile environment
• Strong hands-on experience designing and building distributed systems, microservices, RESTful APIs, and cloud-native applications
• Strong programming experience with modern engineering stacks such as Java/Spring Boot, TypeScript/React, SQL, and related frameworks and technologies
• Experience with Databricks, Spark, or PySpark is highly desirable, particularly for working with data pipelines and analytics-driven applications
• Experience building or supporting cloud-native applications on AWS and/or Azure, with familiarity in CI/CD, containerisation, Kubernetes, observability, automated testing, and production support practices
• Demonstrated ability to lead team-level design discussions, evaluate technical trade-offs, and guide implementation through technical influence
• Ability to translate product and business needs into scalable, secure, and maintainable technical solutions
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through ambiguity, make sound technical decisions, and drive results through hands‑on execution
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience; an advanced degree is a plus
