Job summary

RecruitNet International Ltd is recruiting a Clinical Nurse Specialist – Infection Prevention and Control to join a Dublin hospital. The role is permanent and full-time in Ireland.

You will provide clinical leadership in infection prevention, lead surveillance and outbreak management, and develop evidence-based policies to protect patient safety. A recognised infection control qualification and five years post-registration experience are required, with NMBI registration.

Qualifications

• Be registered in the general division of the Register of Nurses maintained by NMBI.
• Minimum of five years post-registration experience in an acute hospital.
• A recognised Infection Control qualification or be in pursuit of the same.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional clinical leadership in infection prevention and control, promoting best practices and maintaining high standards of patient safety.
• Act as a specialist resource for hospital management, nursing, medical and healthcare staff, providing expert advice on infection prevention, isolation, infectious conditions and outbreak management.
• Develop, implement and regularly review evidence-based infection prevention policies, guidelines, procedures and risk control measures in line with current legislation and best practice.
• Lead infection surveillance, outbreak investigation and root cause analysis, working closely with microbiology, public health and relevant multidisciplinary teams to identify sources and prevent the spread of infection.
• Advise on and monitor isolation practices, infection control techniques, waste management, hygiene, equipment and environmental measures, including during renovations, refurbishments and capital projects.
• Conduct regular audits, inspections and reviews of infection prevention practices, analyse relevant clinical data, monitor key performance indicators and recommend improvements where required.
• Provide education, training and ongoing support to healthcare staff on infection prevention and control, promoting evidence-based practice, research and continuous professional development.
• Promote a patient-centred approach by educating patients and families, advocating for infection prevention and control, and ensuring dignity, respect, choice and effective communication are maintained.
• Contribute to quality improvement, risk management, accreditation and clinical governance activities, including incident and near-miss reporting, policy development and the implementation of corrective actions.
• Provide clinical consultancy and leadership to multidisciplinary teams, present reports to relevant committees, support service development and act as a change agent to improve infection prevention standards, practices and patient outcomes.
