Job summary

AE Montpellier? AECOM seeks an Associate Director to lead end‑to‑end HV substation design across concept through energisation.

You will drive technical discussions with clients and multidisciplinary teams, ensuring interfaces are defined and delivery is coordinated. You will apply lifecycle expertise from grid studies to detailed design, mentor junior engineers, and manage safety across deliverables while developing commercial opportunities with National Grid, EirGrid, and other utilities in the

Qualifications

• Experience with consultancy, contractor, or utility in the energy sector.
• Proven experience delivering HV infrastructure design at concept, FEED, and detailed design stages.
• Strong understanding of electrical AC HV plant and equipment – AIS and GIS.
• Familiarity with National Grid standards and specifications.
• Proposal and bid development experience for Data Centre, HV infrastructure or grid connection projects.
• Experience of design management and site construction review; primary plant focus essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead HV substation technical discussions with clients and multi-disciplinary teams, establishing scopes and interfaces.
• Direct the technical delivery of substation design major projects, monitor progress and quality-check deliverables.
• Apply lifecycle expertise from grid studies to detailed design for HV substations.
• Liaise with project management for resourcing forecasts and schedules.
• Demonstrate commercial awareness through proposals and cost monitoring.
• Build trusted relationships with clients and their grid strategies.
• Champion safety in design across HV deliverables and standards.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers in HV substation design.
