Job summary

Electricity Supply Board (ESB) is seeking an experienced Substation Commissioning professional for its HV Substations Delivery team. You will assess site safety, coordinate commissioning work, and oversee testing of transformers and HV switchgear across Transmission and Distribution networks.

The role requires 3+ years in HV transmission and distribution, solid knowledge of protection philosophies, and the ability to work flexibly across multiple site locations in Ireland.

Qualifications

• Knowledge and experience of Electrical Safety Rules and procedures.
• Knowledge and experience of operational procedures and the operation of substations.
• Familiarity with typical protection philosophies as applied to Transmission and Distribution Networks.
• Conceptual understanding of the design and operating mechanism of Power Plant.
• Thorough knowledge of schematics, cubicle wiring and functional testing techniques.
• Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative without direct supervision.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with others within a team.

Responsibilities

• Assess site safety before commissioning activities and coordinate work with site staff.
• Commissioning primary, secondary and associated equipment for Transmission/Distribution Networks.
• Commissioning testing of instrument transformers, power transformers and HV switchgear.
• Commissioning testing of protection relays.
• Perform functional verification of protection scheme designs and ensure compliance with design standards.
• Coordinate, plan and deliver commissioning projects.
