HV Electrical Engineer — Substations & Commissioning

Job summary

Designer Group in Ireland is seeking an Intermediate Electrical Engineer (HV) to support the delivery of high-voltage infrastructure from design through to commissioning and handover.

You will work under the guidance of Senior Engineers and Engineering Managers on major projects across Ireland and Europe, developing HV designs, coordinating with BIM and EHS teams, and contributing to FAT, SAT and handover activities.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• 2-5 years' experience in electrical engineering in relevant sectors.
• Experience with HV design, installation or commissioning.
• Familiar with MV/HV voltage ranges (10 kV+).
• Knowledge of switchgear, transformers, protection, earthing.

Responsibilities

• Assist in engineering and coordination of HV electrical infrastructure across substations, transformers, switchgear and distribution systems.
• Prepare technical inputs for tenders and project proposals.
• Develop and review HV electrical designs in coordination with other disciplines.
• Ensure designs meet standards and client specifications.
• Coordinate internal teams and external consultants.
• Assist with procurement specifications and evaluations.
• Review submittals and vendor documents.
• Support FAT, SAT, commissioning and energisation activities.
• Participate in site inspections, QA/QC, ITP reviews and handovers.
• Contribute to operating and maintenance documentation.
• Support project teams during construction and commissioning phases.
• Contribute to calculations, reports and design reviews.
• Participate in lessons learned and continuous improvement.
