Job summary

Sanderson is seeking an experienced energy trading leader to head forward trading activities for an Irish power portfolio. You will shape hedging strategies, drive market analysis and support commercial decisions while managing market risk and regulatory compliance.

The role requires five years+ in power trading, strong SEM/I-SEM knowledge, and leadership of a trading team. You will collaborate with trading, finance, regulation and operations to grow a renewable energy portfolio.

Qualifications

• Degree in Eng, Maths, Economics, Finance, Data Analytics, Science or Computer Science.
• Minimum five years' experience in power trading, forward hedging, energy market analysis or price forecasting.
• Strong understanding of SEM and I-SEM power markets.
• Experience developing market models, forecasting prices and analysing trading opportunities.
• Strong commercial judgement and ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Advanced analytical and data management skills.
• Experience leading teams and managing performance.
• Experience with Plexos, ETRM platforms, SQL, Python or Power BI.
• Knowledge of renewable energy markets, PPAs and Guarantees of Origin.
• Experience in capacity markets, gas market modelling or energy market regulation.
• Demonstrated track record of delivering commercially significant trading outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead forward trading and hedging strategies for an Irish power portfolio.
• Optimise hedge volumes, products and timing within trading mandates.
• Deliver market analysis, price forecasting and commercial insights for trading decisions.
• Manage trading risk frameworks, controls, reporting and governance.
• Ensure compliance with EMIR, REMIT and internal trading policies.
• Monitor energy market developments and regulatory changes.
• Lead development and governance of electricity market models and price forecasts.
• Provide recommendations on capacity market and outage related risks.
• Build strong relationships with market counterparties and stakeholders.
• Lead, coach and develop a team of trading professionals.
